FINAL PIECE

The job may not be what you imagined. The city may be more expensive than you anticipated. The opportunities may take longer to come. You may question your decision on days when everything feels difficult.
And sometimes, the life you prayed for may take longer to feel like the life you wanted.

This is why moving requires more than courage. It requires discernment, preparation, patience, and the willingness to adapt.

Do not relocate simply because another city looks better from a distance. Understand what you are moving towards. Consider your finances, your support system, your career prospects, and the practical realities of starting again.

You do not need to have every detail of your future figured out before taking a step. However, you should understand why you are taking that step and be willing to adjust when circumstances change.

IN THE END, GIVE YOURSELF THE CHANCE TO BECOME

At the end of the day, the risks you take with your life are yours to evaluate and yours to live with. Not every move will produce the outcome you hoped for. Not every career pivot will be successful on the first attempt. And not every relocation will turn out exactly as you imagined.

If the move works, you grow through the opportunities it brings. If it does not work as planned, you grow through what it teaches you. You may have to adjust your plans, change direction, or begin again, but you will do so with a better understanding of yourself and the world around you.

Do not let the fear of losing familiarity keep you from exploring possibilities that could change your life.
Sometimes, growth means leaving behind a version of life that is comfortable but no longer sufficient for where you want to go.

And perhaps that is the real meaning of career movement: it is not just about changing jobs, cities, or countries. It is about learning to rebuild, rediscover, and reposition yourself while holding on to the things that truly matter.

Here is to the courage to move, the wisdom to prepare, and the grace to begin again when necessary.

Have a beautiful day. ❤️ by @zainabfakunle

PART 4

4. LONELINESS: LEARNING TO LIVE WITH YOURSELF

Perhaps one of the most underestimated parts of relocating is loneliness.

It is the loneliness of being in a new city while the people who make you feel at home are miles away. It is returning to an apartment where nobody asks how your day went. It is having an experience you wish you could immediately share with someone who understands you without needing an explanation.

Sometimes, you may be surrounded by people and still feel alone. At other times, you may enjoy the freedom of having your own space but suddenly wish someone familiar were around.

Both feelings can exist at the same time.

This is why you must learn to build a life outside your career.

Find something you genuinely enjoy. It could be a game, a sport, a book, a series you look forward to watching, a creative hobby, or a community where you can meet people with similar interests. Take walks. Explore your city. Attend gatherings. Find places where you can simply exist without the pressure to be productive.

Please, do not make the mistake of filling every quiet moment with work.
Work can give you structure, purpose, and financial stability, but it cannot replace every human connection you need. If you constantly use productivity to escape loneliness, you may eventually find yourself exhausted, disconnected, and emotionally drained.

Rest is important. Play is important. Community is important. Having something to look forward to beyond your next professional achievement is important.
You are allowed to build a successful career without making your entire existence about work.

Learn to enjoy your own company, but do not convince yourself that you must do everything alone.

5. THE UNCERTAINTY: MAKING PEACE WITH WHAT YOU CANNOT CONTROL

Perhaps the most difficult part of career movement is that there are no guarantees.

You can research the city, prepare financially, update your CV, secure an opportunity, and make every reasonable plan, yet some things may still not go as expected. by @zainabfakunle

PART THREE 3

And wherever your career takes you, remember that you are not only building a life for yourself; you are also representing the values, love, and lessons you carry from home.

Let your growth give your family another reason to be proud of you, but never become so consumed by your ambition that you forget the people who matter.

3. FRIENDSHIPS: THE PEOPLE WHO GROW WITH YOU, AND THOSE YOU OUTGROW

Let us not romanticise this part: some friendships will change when you move.

The friends who have known you for years, especially those who knew you before your career began to take shape, may understand your journey in ways new acquaintances cannot. They have seen your struggles, witnessed your ambitions, and understood the passion that drives you.

The genuine ones will learn to make room for the changes in your life. They will understand that you may not always be available as you once were, and they will not interpret every missed call or delayed response as a lack of love.

There will be days when you want to pick up your phone and call someone, but you realise that you do not have the emotional energy for the conversation. There will be moments when your mind is occupied with settling into a new routine, finding your feet, or simply trying to make sense of your new reality.

It does not always mean you care less. Sometimes, your capacity has changed.

Unfortunately, some friendships will fade. Others will become stronger despite the distance. You will lose some connections and gain new ones. Some people will misunderstand your silence, while others will understand your season without demanding constant explanations.
Allow relationships to evolve without forcing everything to remain as it was.

And remember this: there are wonderful people you have not met yet. Do not become so attached to the friendships you are afraid of losing that you close yourself off to the beautiful connections waiting for you in your next chapter.

We will continue tomorrow. ❤️ by @zainabfakunle

PART TWO

You may find yourself second-guessing simple decisions because everything feels unfamiliar. Sometimes, you become so conscious of being new that you begin to carry yourself as though you do not belong.

But here is something I have come to understand: being new somewhere does not mean you are out of place.

Learn about the city before you move. Read about its culture, understand its transport system, identify important places, and familiarise yourself with the lifestyle. Preparation will not eliminate every challenge, but it will give you a sense of direction.

When you arrive, allow yourself to learn without feeling inferior. Ask questions when necessary, observe your surroundings, and interact with people. You do not have to pretend to know everything, but you also do not have to shrink because you are still learning.

Carry yourself with the confidence of someone who has a right to be there, because you do.

2. FAMILY: WHEN LOVE MUST TRAVEL THROUGH DISTANCE

If you are family-oriented, relocation can shake you in ways you may not anticipate.

There is something comforting about being able to see your family whenever you want. Sometimes, all you need is to sit with them, hear their voices, share a meal, or look at their faces to feel reassured that life is still in order.

Distance changes that.

You begin to realise that the people who once formed part of your everyday life are now people you have to deliberately make time to see or speak with. You cannot always show up physically, and a phone call may not always replace the comfort of being present.

No matter how hard you try, family life will not remain exactly the same after you move. The relationship may remain strong, but the rhythm changes.
Yet, there is something beautiful about that change. Distance can teach you to become more intentional. You learn to appreciate visits, value conversations, and recognise the little things you once took for granted.

You also begin to understand the importance of having a place where you are genuinely missed and people who are happy to have you around. by @zainabfakunle

PART 1.

CAREER MOVEMENT: THE UNCERTAINTY OF BECOMING

I have been meaning to write this since last week, but somehow, I kept putting it off. Perhaps I needed more time to process the thoughts, or maybe some experiences are easier to understand when you sit with them for a while.

I have titled this “Career Movement.”

Sometimes, when your career is ready to take you from one city to another, or even from one country to another, what you experience first is not excitement. It is uncertainty.

You begin to question everything you thought you had figured out. The life you prayed for starts demanding things you never prepared for. You may have prayed for growth, new opportunities, and a bigger platform, but you may not have considered what it would cost you to sustain the life you once imagined.

On the journey towards the life we envision for ourselves, we sometimes leave certain things unattended because we assume our present circumstances will remain the same for a long time. We build routines, establish relationships, find our favourite places, and become comfortable with the familiarity of our environment. Then, suddenly, growth demands that we leave some of those things behind.

Is changing careers, relocating to another city, or moving to another country as glamorous as it appears? No. Not always. But when the decision is well thought out, carefully calculated, and aligned with your long-term goals, it can be worth the risk.

However, before making that move, there are things you must prepare yourself for. A new environment. A new community. Distance from family. Changing friendships. Boredom. Loneliness. And, perhaps the most difficult of all, the uncertainty of not knowing how things will turn out.

These are not reasons to abandon your dreams. They are realities you must learn to navigate.
1. THE NEW ENVIRONMENT: LEARNING TO BELONG

Adjusting to a new environment can be uncomfortable, especially when you are fully aware that you are a stranger. You do not know the roads, the shortcuts, the unspoken rules, or the little things that make life easier for the people who have lived there for years. by @zainabfakunle
