TATI GHOR | THE HOUSE OF RECALL WHEN HOME MUST MOVE A Story of Resilience, Craft & Cultural Memory Révélations China 2026 | Shanghai What happens to the idea of home when the land beneath it disappears? Inspired by the movable houses of Munshiganj, Bangladesh, where river erosion forces communities to dismantle and rebuild their homes, Tati Ghor (The House of Recall) explores architecture as an expression of resilience, memory, and belonging. Conceived by ZANNAT JUI ARCHITECTS in collaboration with artist @anika_alamin.textiledesign and supported by @durjoybangladeshfoundation ,the installation brings together vernacular architecture and Bangladesh’s living craft traditions. Handwoven Jamdani by Rajon Mia and his team, featuring motifs designed by Anika Alamin, meets a jute roof, traditional Shital Pati craftsmanship, and a working loom. More than an installation, it is a reflection on displacement, cultural identity, and sustainability—reminding us that while a house may move, the memories of home remain. ‘The House of Recall (Tati Ghor)’ is taking shape. As World Architecture Day this year considers the theme “Housing is a Human Right. Build It.”, this architecture of adaptation takes on particular resonance. The project is now being under construction for its presentation at REVELATIONS CHINA 2026, at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre from 19–23 November 2026. Conceived by architect Zannat Jui and developed in collaboration with textile artist Anika Alamin and master weaver Rajon, the installation draws its architectural form from the “readymade” houses of Munshiganj, Bangladesh. Developed by communities living with the recurring realities of river erosion and displacement, these houses can be disassembled, moved and rebuilt when the land beneath them can no longer be inhabited. The structure is wrapped with hand woven Jamdani textile with precision engineered measurement to fit the house structure , connecting the house to another living craft tradition of Bangladesh. The history of Jamdani is closely connected to Sonargaon, regarded as the birthplace of the textile and historically an important river port and centre of textile production. In the fifteenth century, Chinese maritime expeditions visited Bengal, while Chinese accounts from the period documented Sonargaon as a thriving centre of trade and fine textile production. At the heart of the project is the relationship between architecture and craft. The Munshiganj house carries knowledge shaped over generations, from how it is constructed to how it responds to a shifting landscape. Preserving such building traditions means bringing this knowledge into contemporary conversations around architecture and planning, where an understanding of local materials and environmental conditions remains relevant. Ancestral building techniques can offer valuable lessons for climate adaptation, local economies and context-sensitive design today. Within the structure, jute cord, a 16-shaft loom and Shital Pati further extend this relationship between building and craft, bringing materials and practices rooted in Bangladesh into the space of the house. by @zannatjuiarchitects
