There are souls that come into our lives and quietly change everything.

For 16 years, that soul was Oakley.

She wasn’t just my dog. She was my shadow, my hiking partner, my reason to get outside when life felt too heavy, my comfort when words weren’t enough, and my very best friend.

Together we walked through every season. We chased snowflakes in the winter, wandered endless trails in the spring, soaked in the warmth of summer, and watched the leaves fall every autumn. Those weren’t just walks… they were our life.

When I couldn’t find peace, she led me back to it.

When I lost myself in grief, stress, or uncertainty, she never asked questions. She simply stayed beside me. Somehow, that was always enough.

Oakley had the gentlest heart. Everyone who met her felt it. She greeted the world with kindness, curiosity, and a quiet joy that couldn’t help but make people smile.

She taught me to slow down.
To breathe.
To notice the beauty around me.
To love without conditions.

Today, my heart is shattered.

I don’t know how to come home without hearing your paws.
I don’t know how to walk our favorite trails without looking for you ahead of me.
I don’t know how to imagine this next chapter without my best friend by my side.

But if love could have kept you here, you would have lived forever.

Thank you for every adventure.
For every muddy paw print.
For every cold morning hike.
For every creek we explored.
For every time you made me laugh when I didn’t think I could.
For choosing me to be your person.

You gave me far more than I could have ever given you.

Run free now, sweet girl.

May there always be endless trails beneath your paws, cool streams to splash through, warm sunshine on your back, and all the squirrels you could ever dream of chasing.

Until we find each other again…

You will forever be my greatest adventure.

I love you more than words could ever hold.

Rest easy, my beautiful Oakley.

Forever my dog.
Forever my companion.
Forever my best friend. by @zaun_111

What do you do when you find yourself standing at the corner of Everything and Nothing?

Maybe you pause.

You stop chasing everything you thought you needed and sit quietly with the nothingness you were taught to fear. Because sometimes “nothing” isn’t emptiness, it’s space. Space to breathe, to heal, to listen, and to decide what truly deserves to become your everything! by @zaun_111
