Hey Yall!

Coming out of Chicago, Zercher is a power-pop punk band pulling from an eclectic mix of influences and backgrounds.

The band’s story actually starts thousands of miles away from Chicago. Members Robert and Austin are both military brats who met while attending high school in Okinawa, Japan. They’ve been playing music together ever since, eventually making their way to Chicago and linking up with the rest of the boys while attending DePaul University in 2024.

For Robert, his Filipino roots stretch across multiple generations and regions of the Philippines. He is first generation on his mother’s side and second generation on his father’s side. His mother was born in Pañanque, Manila, with Tagalog and Ilocano roots, while his father was born in Calumet City, Illinois, with Visayan and Ilocano roots.

And of course, we had to ask about food. 🍲

The Zercher crew’s Filipino favorites include sinigang, chicken adobo, longanisa, and pancit.

“The Band with Divine Timing: An Interview with Zercher” is now live on Substack!

This month, I had the opportunity of sitting down with the members of the up-and-coming Chicago-based band Zercher as well as catching their Casa Cafe show. We discussed their unusual band name, the intricate way the band was formed, their music creation, upcoming projects, and more. To read about it you can access the link in my bio or through the Substack “ivaswritings.”

Hello Zercher,

This summer, our paths have taken us across the globe. Far from each other, and far from our homes. But on August 20th, at Northwestern’s Kahn Pavilion, we will reunite at sunset! Come, Zercher. Come in droves! Thank you.
