Two intense days with the Water Whisperer at @tedaivienna What struck us most this time was the audience. Every context in which we have shown the Water Whisperer has created a different kind of encounter. At TEDAI, we met a community that was remarkably willing to give the experience time — to step inside, sit down with people they had never met before, and allow a conversation to unfold together. The installation suddenly became very social. Strangers listened to each other, disagreed, built on each other’s thoughts, laughed, negotiated, and stayed. What began as a conversation with an AI-mediated water persona often became a conversation between the people sharing the space. It reminded us that interactive work is never only about the interaction we design. It is also shaped by the communities that enter it: how they use the space, how much time they give it, and how willing they are to engage with one another. Perhaps this is one of the possibilities we find most exciting about AI in physical space: not replacing human conversation, but creating unusual conditions for it to happen. Thank you to everyone at TEDAI who stepped inside, brought an offering, shared the space with someone they didn’t know, and became part of the Water Whisperer. Who does the future of water belong to? 💧 Next week, we are bringing Water Whisperer to @tedaivienna Vienna at the Hofburg. Water Whisperer is a participatory installation that asks what happens when water is no longer only a resource to be managed, measured and distributed — but becomes a participant in the conversation about its own future. Through AI-driven personas, different water bodies and states — from groundwater and rain to wastewater, fog and snow — are given distinct voices shaped by environmental data, local conditions and the ecological systems they are part of. Visitors enter into a conversation with these water spirits. They can question them, negotiate with them, disagree with them — and are confronted with perspectives that do not necessarily place human interests at the centre. Who gets to decide how much water a city consumes? What happens when the interests of ecosystems conflict with our own? And if water could take part in the decisions we make about it, what would it ask from us? Who does the future of water belong to? Come and have a conversation with water. 📍 TEDAI Vienna · Hofburg 📅 29–30 October 2026 @arselectronica @startseu #AquaMotion . . . Every exhibition is temporary. Its waste often isn’t. Exhibitions are built, assembled, experienced—and dismantled again only days or weeks later. Custom-made structures and materials can quickly become waste. With Cube X, we asked: How can exhibition design become more circular while remaining spatially and aesthetically adaptive? Cube X is a modular, easy-to-assemble system designed to respond to changing spaces, contents and requirements. Its elements can be continuously recombined into different configurations, allowing each exhibition to develop its own spatial character and aesthetic expression without starting from scratch. Rather than designing a fixed solution for a temporary moment, we designed a system that can evolve from one exhibition to the next. Assemble. Adapt. Reconfigure. Reuse. Cube X — designed not for one exhibition, but for many. OpenFields Team @mark.balzar @zeynep.axoz @philippmachtdiesen by @zeynep.axoz
Thank you @viennadesignweek for having Water Whisperer as part of this year’s program! It was wonderful to be part of the festival again and to share Water Whisperer with so many curious visitors, conversations, and encounters. Thank you to everyone who stepped inside, listened, spoke with the waters, and became part of the experience. Until next time! @arselectronica @startseu #AquaMotion . . . Tomorrow is your last chance to experience Water Whisperer live at the Vienna Design Week Zentrale. What if water could speak for itself? Step inside Water Whisperer and meet the different waters that shape Vienna — rain, groundwater, wastewater, fog, snow and the Wienfluss. Through an AI-mediated conversation, they share their own perspectives on the city, its infrastructures, its changing climate and our relationship with water. Bring an object, place it on the pedestal and enter the conversation. Listen to our voices, human. Our time to speak. 📍 Vienna Design Week Zentrale 🗓 Saturday, 3 October ⏰ 14:00–17:00 Come by and meet us — and the waters of Vienna. What a great time we had at @arselectronica Festival But it’s not over yet. Water Whisperer: Vienna Edition is coming to Vienna Design Week — with new waters, new voices and new stories. This time, you can also speak to Wienfluss. What does a river that has been channelled, controlled and put to work for centuries have to tell us? And what might it ask of us in return? Come and find out. Opening Saturday, 26 September at Vienna Design Week. @arselectronica @startseu #AquaMotion . . . Who does the future of water belong to? 💧 Water Whisperer at Ars Electronica 2026. Step inside an immersive world where AI becomes a mediator between humans and the environment — and encounter the spirits of the Danube, groundwater, sewage, rain, fog and snow. Here, AI doesn’t give you the answers. Water asks the questions. Enter into dialogue about ecology, society, the city and possible futures — and become part of a collective negotiation between human and non-human voices. If you’re in Linz for the festival, come by, step inside and bring your perspective. We would love to see you! Where do you speak with the spirits of water? While developing Water Whisperer, we asked ourselves what kind of space such an encounter would need. Not another screen, but an intimate atmosphere—something closer to a ritual. Water Whisperer is therefore more than a digital interface for engaging with water. It is an immersive spatial environment that visitors enter together: a place to gather, listen, speak, and collectively call upon the spirits of water. Inside, the conversation becomes spatial and embodied. Technology recedes into the background, making room for a shared ritual in which water is encountered not as a resource or dataset, but as a presence with its own voice, memory, and perspective. . . . . .
