It was a real joy to be part of the team and to create this project together. Although I felt compelled to unearth and bring into the light horrific story - the other one deeply embedded in the memory of my homeland while we decided to work within the context of food and pantries.

It is the story of several waves of man-made famines in Ukraine, orchestrated by the communist regime in the first half of the 20th century. The most brutal among them—the Holodomor of 1932–33—was deliberately concealed by Soviet authorities until the final days of the USSR.

Millions of prosperous Ukrainian villagers—entire families of hardworking farmers—were robbed, starved, and ultimately murdered.
This was done to establish the so-called 'sunny and progressive' communist utopia, to enslave the population through the kolhosp (collective farm) system, and to exterminate in general as much as possible of the free-spirited, well-organized, and self-governed people.

Photos from different stages of project development during 8 month- long period.

Glimpse into "the fontain of unequal equality", version 2023-2025

tap water, metal, high pressure hose, garden hose, different vessels (ceramics, glass, cast iron, plastic)

img 1 «Unequal Equality» - original concept and drawing by Ukrainian philosopher of 18th century Hryhorii Skovoroda: "No matter the size and form of the vessel — each is equally filled by God, like a generous fountain".

img 2,3 - screenshot of instagram post by photographers Kostiantyn and Vlada Liberov @libkos

The emergency whater supply system built in the nearly occupied and devastated by Russian military city of Bakhmut, Ukraine, can be recognized today as a contemporary version of Skovoroda's fontain.

This structure merges profound philosophy with the brutal reality of war, becoming a stark statement of the unstoppable process of decolonization, restoration of equality and a rightful place for all.

No matter what is the size and shape of your group - if you know the same language, and learn how to care about earth and children, and how to be cared by earth and children, and how to communicate with animals, and know the songs, and wisdom, and poetry - your group is full and equal to all others around.

Could the «generous fontain» be understood today simply as the source of the right to exist ... the right to full being?

Eng below.
