Island of the Gods ~ Oracle Deck ~ coming soon… by @zoekoritsas_

Sitting in the ocean, I found myself revelling in how beautiful my stretch marks looked.

These silver lines I once hated, I now see so much beauty in.

As the sunlight reflected off the ocean and danced across my skin, for a moment I could barely tell where the reflections ended and my stretch marks began.

A little reminder that we are nature too.

That maybe the things we’ve been taught to see as “flaws” were never flaws at all. They’re texture, stories, character, their own kind of perfect beauty.

Is perfectionism stopping you from playing? by @zoekoritsas_

We heal in spirals.

I’ve had a lot of time alone in nature recently. I always find that mountains bring up the things within me that have not yet fully healed. It’s as though, in the enormity of the mountains’ energy, nothing goes unseen. Nothing stays underground. It erupts to the surface, just as the mountains themselves once did. Recently, a recurring feeling came back.

The grief and loss of a romantic relationship. Grief for a future that never materialised. Grief for the dreams of what could have been and all the ifs and buts.

Whenever these feelings return, at first I have compassion for myself. And then it turns to frustration.

Why do I still have these feelings? Why am I still having these thoughts? Haven’t I already healed this?

I get annoyed at the repetitive nature of it all.

But after I allow myself to feel that too, I am reminded that life is a spiral, not a straight line.

Sometimes we may feel as though we are going backwards. But as a spiral moves forward, there are moments when it appears to circle back and descend, before rising again. We return to the same places, but we are not the same person we were the last time we stood there.

This analogy has helped me greatly. It gives me the freedom to feel what comes up without judgement. Instead of asking, Why am I here again? I can become curious.

Why now?

What am I expanding into that requires me to release another layer?

My teacher Malaika once showed me an image of a shell opened up. Inside are chambers, each one marking a stage of growth. The creature lives comfortably within one chamber until eventually it outgrows what once held it. There is constriction before expansion. Then it creates a larger chamber, moves into it, and becomes comfortable once again.

And so the process continues.

That is life’s spiral.
