POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m finding myself in the one place I thought I had left behind.

This spring, I had the privilege of performing a piece titled "Buzzkill" with some lovely friends of mine, choreographed by my incredibly talented friend, Shelby Moore @shelbymo0re , as part of GroCo Collective @groco_llective , a project-based dance company bringing adult dancers together from across South Louisiana.

Somewhere between rehearsals and performances, I was reminded how much I love simply being on stage. No deadlines, no choreography to teach, no costumes to organize.. just the opportunity to be present, move, and tell a story.

Thank you to everyone who came to support me throughout this journey. Whether you attended one performance or several, seeing familiar faces in the audience meant more than you know. Your encouragement is one of the reasons I continue to pursue what I love.

Thank you Basin Arts, Julien Poydras Museum & Art Center in New Roads, Wonderland in Baton Rouge, & Cité des Arts in Lafayette!

I’m so grateful to this incredible cast for reminding me that no matter how many hats I wear as a teacher, choreographer, or director, there will always be a part of me that simply loves to perform. 💛 by @zyriag

Over the years I’ve been blessed to create, teach, collaborate, and tell stories through movement in so many different spaces from competition stages, to music videos, to live productions and community arts events.

Sometimes I get so caught up in what’s next that I forget to pause and look at how far this journey has already taken me. This is only the beginning. 💛

Taking a moment to reflect on last night's performance. Nebu, I'm so blessed to be apart of your journey!! Leigha!!! Thank you for inviting me onto this project. Your hard work, wise words and professionalism are SO admirable. BIG thank you to everyone that came out! Last night felt nothing short of AMAZING! I am myself, I am strong, I will move confidently, I will breathe, I will reach my goals. 🥹💪🏾🤍

They never asked who gets the water break 💁🏾‍♀️ #zygcreativity #danceeducator #blackchoreographers #louisianadancers #proudcoach by @zyriag

Being a dance teacher is such a beautiful job, but it can also be a heavy one. You watch kids grow up, change, become more independent, and sometimes drift as they get older. You navigate team dynamics, hard conversations, disappointed parents, growing pains, and the reality that you may only be one chapter in their lives.

And through all of it, there are the laughs. The hugs. The inside jokes. The breakthroughs. The “Miss Zy, look what I can do!” moments. The kids who come back years later. The ones who may never know how much they taught you while you were busy teaching them.

The people who really know me know how much heart I pour into my Hamilton kids. Those kids are my why. They are my reason. They push me to show up in ways I haven’t always known how to show up for myself. I worry about them, pray over them, celebrate them, correct them, laugh with them, fight for them, and love them more than they probably even realize.

Being a dance teacher is definitely not for the weak. Your heart gets stretched in a hundred different directions.

But I would choose these kids every single time. 💜 #zygcreativity #louisianadancers #blackchoreographers #dancersoftiktok #danceteachers by @zyriag

My Wanni, how I miss you so much. 🪽

You know, they always say that your first major loss in your family will change you drastically. I have been blessed to not experience such a close death in my family. But with that, I knew that there's always a first for everything. I just never thought it would be you.

The pain knowing you won't be calling my phone ever again or that I will never be able to get a big hug from you is unlike any other. It doesn't feel real that you're really gone.. like at any moment now I will wake up from a bad dream. It's just.. like my brain can't comprehend what's happened and I want to think that things will go back to normal. Even though deep down I know that this is reality.

Today was hard. Today was so hard. Watching your siblings, mostly my mom, tore my heart more than I thought it ever could. Their baby sister is gone. My grandmas youngest gone. My cousins mother is gone. Right now, it feels so unfair.

We said our final goodbyes to you, but I know it's not really a goodbye but a "see you later" I love you forever and always & you know I'll continue to look out my cousins for you and keep sharing your stories and the light that you brought to everyone around you. Rest in Heaven my beautiful angel. Until we meet again ❤️‍🩹

Love, Zeebee

Thank you to everyone that reached out. Thank you 1000x. I will never forget who showed up for my family and I. Please continue to cover my family in strength and prayers. ❤️ by @zyriag

Boyyyy, do I love being at @onmovingdancecompany 🥳

Back by popular demand… “Lions, Tigers & Bears” everyone!

There’s something so refreshing and invigorating about watching choreography come to life exactly how you pictured it in your mind. The musicality, the intention, the textures, the emotion🤧🤧🤧

Moments like this remind me why I love creating so much. What starts as an idea in my head becomes something real through the dancers who trust me enough to bring it to life. 🖤
