I refuse to let the world smooth over your departure into the unseen, or let polite silence sanitize an administrative execution.

Antar—محمد عنتر—was our sonic alchemist, an early prophet of Palestinian hip-hop who carved hymns of fire from the sacred dust and concrete of Gaza.

His death was not natural; it was the fatal weight of an empire of borders that denied him medicine, papers, and sanctuary, abandoning him to the cold purgatory of an Istanbul hospital corridor where time was weaponized against his fragile vessel.

He bore quiet, holy wars within himself, veiling his true gender identity beneath a heavy mantle of silence solely to shield his family from the world's cruelty. Yet through every crucible of exile, an ethereal magic moved through him—he transmuted every fracture into grace, meeting displacement with morning rituals, radical tenderness, and fierce devotion to the orphaned nieces who became his earthly purpose.

Antar was erased because he refused to be the empire’s “perfect victim.” He never performed curated sorrow for white saviors, hollow algorithms, or foreign stages. He kept his verses sacred, refusing to dilute his tongue in English, remaining eternally loyal to the soil and souls of our besieged Gaza.

In a world governed by cosmic justice, nations and poets worldwide would stand in awe of his spirit. But this world trades in fleeting illusions, not sacred truth. It does not matter; in the grassroots and in the invisible ledger of existence, Antar fulfilled every duty of the heart with luminous purity.

Thank you, habibi, across all thresholds. We will be an eternal sanctuary for your siblings and nieces, wrapping Maysa and Majd in your unending light.
Gaza breathes your name into the sky.
إدعُو له بالسلام، والحب، والحرّاسة الأزلية لروحه الحرة. 🕊️✨❤️‍🩹
بنحبك جداً وشكرا على كل شي.

Dear ones! I am starting a new round to fundraise for the people who have been forcibly displaced and now have to build a life for themselves in Egypt. As in the past, the donations will be used to pay rent, pay cash aid for food and daily expenses and cover medical costs. If possible, I’ll support their families in Gaz🍉. This time, however, I am also focussing on Palestini🍉n Joy. Our first trips have shown how important and therapeutic it is to create spaces for Gaz🍉wis - above all children - where they can relax, have fun and feel safe. We want to create more and more community as community is healing. Please feel free to share. Love, always. ❤️🌾🫂 Thanks @sixtwentysix.uk for doing the design for me!! Link in Bio by @030muriel

Please print the QR code of the campaign in my Bio and bring it to one of the big protests. Tell people what happened to Antar and who he was. Please note that the amount on the fundraiser was spent for Antars hospital stay, medicine, a care taker, funeral & grave and to pay off debts made for his treatment & diagnosis. Antar also wanted that his brothers and family in turkey get a health insurance. He knew why. His sister & kids barely received any donations since yesterday. Please support Antars last wish to give them some stability in life. She is widowed, she is raising three little kids all alone in Egypt, there is zero structural support and she and the kids are deeply, deeply heartbroken and traumatized. Let’s ease her aching. Mutual Aid is political. by @030muriel

We lost Antar on September 25. 💔

Antar was our friend. He was a voice from Gaza, an artist, a musician, a brother, an uncle, and a person deeply loved by so many of us.

We cannot bring him back.

But we can take care of the people he loved.

His little sister Misaa is alone in Cairo with her three children, eight, five and two years old. Their father was murdered in Gaza last year. Antar loved these children fiercely. He spent his days with them when they were finally reunited in Cairo, and he told me again and again that his greatest wish was for them to be okay.

To have stability. To go to kindergarten. To have toys, hobbies, laughter. For Misaa to be able to breathe a little and not have to carry the whole weight of survival alone.

So we are keeping Antar’s fundraiser open.

If you loved Antar, if his music meant something to you, if you followed his story, if you donated before, or if you simply believe that the people we lose should not leave behind families who are left to struggle alone, please help us carry this forward.

For Misaa.
For her children.
For the family Antar loved.

And for Antar. ❤️ by @030muriel

إحكُوا عن عنتر ❤️‍🩹
Stop scrolling and look at who you let die in silence.
Mohammed Saeed Antar was a foundational architect of Palestinian hip-hop. Long before algorithms turned our genocide into curated content, he was an alchemist carving anthems of resistance from the concrete of Gaza—carrying our truth from Brazil to Switzerland to Syria.
His death at 40 was an administrative execution. State violence suspended his life, denied his right to travel, and starved him of healthcare in Turkey simply because his passport bore the word empires criminalize: Gaza.
The neoliberal cultural circuits, white gatekeepers, and overnight influencers won’t speak his name. They harvest reach off our misery, but choke on artists who refuse to perform palatable trauma or weaponize their identity for Western applause. Antar never sold out. He rapped for the street, from the bone, loyal only to our people.
Respecting Gaza means honoring the titans who built its spirit. You don’t get to aestheticize our martyrs while erasing the pioneers who gave us our voice.
Rest in power, Antar, ya Habibi. You transcend their borders now. Whoever Gaza mourns is sacred forever.
إحكُوا عن عنتر، وإدعُو له. بنحبك يا عنتر، وشكراً على كل شي. 🕊️✨❤️‍🩹

I shared Antar’s story widely, including with cultural workers from the West and the Arab diaspora. So many didn’t reply. Some watched my stories. But apparently it wasn’t worth a share.

And when I talk about the disconnect I often feel between my direct work with displaced communities from Gaza and the events, panels and cultural spaces in Western contexts, I have to include this now.

It is beyond my understanding how someone whose music and artistry meant so much to so many people in Gaza can find no space, no interest, no mention, no tribute in the highly aestheticized spaces that speak so extensively about Palestine.

There is no cultural capital in it, it seems.

And so many people seem unable to locate themselves and others beyond shared heritage and identity politics. To locate themselves within class, passport privilege, mobility, access, proximity to institutions, and the particular forms of cultural legitimacy that make some Palestinians visible while others remain almost completely invisible.

Yes, Saint Levant was not the first Gazan musician.

Yes, Antar did not sanitize himself.

He did not make himself easily consumable. He did not translate himself into something more comfortable for Western audiences.

But he meant something to the very people you keep talking about at your events.

Antar had none of the privileges that many of us carry.

But he meant something.

He was loved.

He was important.

He made culture from Gaza. He made music that belonged to his people. He made people feel seen.

And when he was dying, when I was asking people to help keep him alive, so many of the people who speak so loudly about Palestinian culture chose silence.

I will not keep writing about this. I am weary.

But I see the neglect.

And now that Antar is gone, I cannot unsee it. by @030muriel

I still don’t have the words to describe what Antar went through in all its depth, brutality, and political dimension.

I am sitting here early in the morning, trying to simply describe my beautiful friend.

Antar loved mornings. We would usually meet for breakfast and then talk for hours.

Antar felt safe. Always.

He was wise, restless, curious, always wanting to get out, out, out into the world. And sometimes, when the darkness came, he would disappear and hide for weeks.

But his heart was always open.

He would put that heart, red and beating, right there on the table and talk about life. About truth. About the things we are usually taught to hide. He never wanted to be ashamed of what life sometimes does to us.

Antar talked to me about everything. About depression, his and mine. About love. About fear. About politics. About life.

And he had this extraordinary ability to make people feel accepted exactly as they were.

His little sister Misaa had not seen him for 13 years. She was alone, widowed, raising three children while living through the horror of the genocide.

When Antar came to live with us in Cairo, she blossomed.

Her children lit up around him. They looked at him like a father.

They bloomed and bloomed simply because Antar was who he was.

He loved them as they were.

That acceptance ran through so many of Antar’s relationships. And I think, deep inside, he wanted so badly to experience that same acceptance himself.

The love he gave so freely was sometimes the hardest thing for him to receive or give it to himself.

He told me more than once that he ran away from love. That he often wondered whether he was worthy of being loved.

Oh, Antar.

You were so worthy of love.

At the beginning of August, Antar and I were still looking for a new apartment for him in Cairo.

He was in Istanbul, trying to extend his residency.

He had plans.

Big plans.

Together with friends and an organisation, he wanted to open a community centre in Cairo. He wanted to make music again. He spoke about his future with such enthusiasm. (More in the comment section) taken in Cairo, Egypt by @030muriel

They carry you now upon their shoulders through the murmuring stones of Istanbul, while your gaze drifts upward into the blue infinite—parting with a serene, half-smile at the sheer illusion of this transient world, yet shadowed by the quiet sorrow of a soul that asked too much beauty from an unyielding earth, and too much tender truth from those you loved.

A gentle titan has stepped beyond the veil. My dearest companion—or Antar, as we, his constellation of friends, always summoned him; known to the ledger of this fleeting life as Mohammed Saeed Antar. He was among the earliest voices to carve poetry from concrete, one of the original pioneers who planted the seeds of hip-hop and rap across Palestine, and within the defiant, sacred dust of Gaza. His voice was an early flame in the dark. Yet after boundless trials and silent wars, he chose to weave the twilight of his years in quiet surrender, gathered into the warm embrace of his family—his final sanctuary from the storms we have all endured, and from a cruelty heavier still. His spirit, tender and porous as morning light, could not help but break beneath the weight of the ongoing genocide against our people. He was simply too delicate, too luminous with hope, to withstand the unraveling of the world.

You slipped into the ethereal far swifter than my trembling plans, my friend. I was quietly arranging my compass toward Istanbul for mid-October, solely to sit beside you and breathe ease into your days. But your fragile vessel, your wide and weary heart, could bear the earthly ache no longer. The suddenness leaves me grasping at mist; I had held tightly to the promise of walking beside you in Istanbul just a little longer, as I swore I would.

Peace be the garment of your soul, beloved brother, and an ocean of grace upon your family and kin. Their cups have run over with the bitter wine of departure—orphaned together in the tender green of childhood, then parting with your brother in the very dawn of his youth, and now surrender you to the silence.

To my beloved family in the house of Antar, to Maysa and Majd most tenderly: no mortal language possesses the alchemy to mend your broken spirits. We love you❤️ by @030muriel
