💯🎉Class on Monday, April 27 at 5:30 - Modern MOVES: Masterclass is a high-energy, thought-provoking session blending early American modern dance with bold explorations of weight, balance, and spatial tension. Dancers connect from the inside out, using breath, body mechanics, and articulation to move efficiently, powerfully, and expressively. Through dynamic floor work, across-the-floor locomotion, and play, students experiment with speed, direction, and phrasing while layering intention and style. Peer-to-peer feedback and a “classroom as lab” approach sparks curiosity, reflection, and collaborative discovery. Class culminates in a full-bodied, exhilarating movement phrase, celebrating connection, creativity, and the joy of moving together.

Biography: A proud Buffalo native, Marisa f. Ballaro is Founding Artistic Director of NYC-based Ballaro Dance; she centers community-driven, collaborative work in her vision. Marisa holds an MFA in Dance from Montclair State University where she was selected as Convocation Speaker for the College of the Arts. She graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Brockport and received an Outstanding Service Award from the Alumni Association in 2025. Marisa taught at The Brearley School in Manhattan for 12 years; currently, she offers coaching, mentoring, and consulting through Your Next MOVE, her professional development platform. In February, Marisa was commissioned by the Society for New Music to develop a new work in collaboration with composer Hippocrates Cheng for performances at SUNY Brockport, RIT, OCC/Syracuse, and Hobart and William Smith Colleges. In April, her Company toured to Washington, DC to perform at the Aurora Dance Festival. Marisa is driven by community building, taking pride in facilitating safe entry points for those meeting the world of dance for the first time. Living at the intersection of imagination and action, Marisa is both dreamer and doer; she brings resonant, trailblazing ventures to life. by @0live0il__
