Why “Identical” Discs Fly Differently Has this ever happened to you? You lose your favorite disc, buy the EXACT same one... and it flies nothing like your old one. 🤔 The culprit is usually the Parting Line Height (PLH). Take these three Champion Destroyers—all from the same shipment, all around the same weight. The tiny difference in their PLH is what makes one super beefy and another much more neutral. Here’s the simple rule (SAME mold): 🟢 Higher PLH = More Overstable 🔵 Lower PLH = Less Overstable While the parting line isn’t the only factor contributing to stability, it is the most significant factor. Next time you’re looking to buy a new disc, consider checking the PLH measurements to find the one that fits your needs. Have you been burned by this before? The Only MVP Disc in My Bag In all the MVP disc reviews I’ve done, I’m sure it’s surprising that I haven’t bagged many molds from them. However, one recently caught my attention: the Control, a 10-speed driver with the stability of my very seasoned Firebird. I could release it on a slight hyzer, get it to push straight, and then reliably fade at the end—the type of shot that you need to make your scorecard look good. Many discs fly like that, but the Control also checked an even more important box for me. It felt comfortable in my hand, especially for sidearm shots. Plus, as a big bonus, it gave me confidence for my backhand as well. My biggest complaint is that it doesn’t have much of a dome. I’m not asking for a huge pop-top, but a nice, moderate, smooth dome would definitely push it up a notch. If you’ve tried the MVP Control, have you had a similar experience? Did MVP Just Beat the Firebird? 😳 While Simon Lizotte wanted the Aspect to be a fairway driver that pushed straight down the fairway before a reliable overstable finish, the Eclipse edition may have turned out a tick or two more overstable. We enjoyed throwing this disc, especially on strong flex lines, whether backhand or forehand. We definitely didn’t have to worry about the disc flipping unexpectedly, but it also offered quite a bit of distance relative to its overstability. We expect the stock Neutron edition to be truer to its flight numbers than this special edition Eclipse run, which flies more like an Innova Firebird. Is the Terminator the Destroyer Killer? 🤔 Discraft fans have been searching for a true Innova Destroyer clone for years. While several molds have filled similar slots, nothing has quite matched the legendary Destroyer. The Elite Team, however, is loving the new Terminator—has Discraft finally designed a mold that meets the gold standard? Engineered with dome pre-built into the mold and a torque-resistant profile, Discraft pushed the limits by taking a page out of Discmania’s book and shifting more mass into the nose of the wing, thereby increasing its gyroscopic stability and providing a forward-penetrating fade. To compare the flights, Jordan tested the new Terminator and a Star Destroyer on a 420-foot hole. The Terminator flipped to flat from a small hyzer release and pushed straight down the fairway before finishing with a nice pushing fade. This particular Star Destroyer was more understable than the Terminator, requiring more hyzer angle in order to hold the hyzer line toward the basket.
