It’s not just where you go. It’s who you go with. ⛰️

One of the best things about Army Reserve life is the people you get to share it with.

During a recent adventurous training weekend, the Battery Sergeant Major and a junior officer from 216 Battery swapped their usual duties for a challenge in the mountains.

Different ranks, different responsibilities, but out on the hillside they’re sharing the same experience.

It’s weekends like these that help you get to know the people you serve alongside, build friendships and make memories that stay with you long after you’ve headed home.

Because being part of 103 Regiment is about more than what you do. It’s about who you do it with.

What’s the best adventure you’ve shared with your mates?

🔧 You don't need to know how. That's what training is for.

Every Gunner starts somewhere.

Learning to safely strip, clean and reassemble your SA80 is one of the basic skills you'll be taught in the Army Reserve.

Your instructors show you how, explain why, and give you the time to practise.

No previous experience needed. Just a willingness to learn. 💪

💬 What skill would you like to learn in the Army Reserve?

🎯 HOW HIGH IS TOO HIGH?

Some challenges really do raise the bar!

From first-time shooters to experienced hands, our Reservists put their skills to the test on the high bird stand.

Expert coaching, new skills and targets that certainly weren't making life easy. 💪

Just another example of the challenges and opportunities waiting for you in the Army Reserve.

💬 Reckon you'd hit it?

A design flaw, or clever engineering? 🤔

Ever wondered why Gunners remove a wheel when bringing the L118 Light Gun into action?

It's all about portability.

The L118's narrow wheelbase helps keep it compact enough to tow across difficult terrain or transport beneath a helicopter. 🚁

The trade-off? One wheel has to come off temporarily to allow the barrel to rotate into its firing position.

Not a mistake. A deliberate design choice.

And just another drill our Reserve Gunners learn to master. 💪

💬 Did you know the reason?

🎯 Standing. Kneeling. Prone. Which is hardest?

Different shooting positions. Different challenges our Reservists. The aim: accuracy.

Being a Gunner isn’t just about the big guns.

As a Reservist, your rifle marksmanship is tested too, and you’re expected to meet the same standards as Regular soldiers.

🎯 Steady aim.
🎯 Controlled breathing.
🎯 Consistent accuracy.

💬 Which position tests your skills the most?

🪢 Learning the ropes. Quite literally.

Adventurous Training isn't just about getting out into the hills for the weekend.

Members of 103 have been developing their mountain skills, with some working towards Mountain Leader qualifications.

That means learning and practising skills that have a use well beyond a weekend away with the Army Reserve.

Navigation. Managing people in the mountains. Making decisions. Looking after a group. And, as pictured here, getting to grips with ropework.

They're skills you can develop in uniform and take back into civilian life.

Not everything you learn in the Army stays in the Army.

🌅 Not your average Sunday morning.

Cold air. Early starts. Guns ready for another day in the field.

Just another reminder that your weekends in the Army Reserve can look very different from your Monday to Friday. 💪

Different challenges. Good mates. Experiences you won’t get from your day job.
