A birthday month that felt extra special, snowy walks that made everything feel quieter, a magical night at the theatre watching Hercules, so many yummy meals, and lots of very cute puppy moments.

It wasn’t loud or dramatic, just slow, comforting and full of little pockets of joy. Exactly how I wanted to start the year. We started looking at sofas as we want to finally finish the living room this year. One of the many unfinished rooms in our house.

This was my least favourite thing to do because I didn’t want to mess up and have to buy new doors. Yes I know because they’re wood that I could just fill and paint over but I wanted them to start out absolutely perfect.

I was sweating during the whole process worried that I might ruin one of the doors but luckily we got through the whole thing without a damaged door in sight 🙌

Did anyone else hate this bit of their kitchen renovation or am I just an over thinker?

Ad Am I actually crazy for installing our own kitchen?

Our budget was tight with this renovation, but we were desperate to get the kitchen in. So we made the call to install it ourselves and save a huge chunk of money. It definitely wasn’t a one-woman job (thank you family 🙏), but watching it come together piece by piece hits different when you know you did it.

Seeing the finished space feels even better knowing the effort, late nights, and learning curves that went into it. Would I recommend it to everyone? Probably not. Would I do it again? Ask me after I’ve recovered 😂

Ad It’s time to go through our full kitchen renovation
If you haven’t watched the others, here’s a quick recap of what we tackled structurally first.

Like most 1930s homes, space was tight, so every decision had to work harder. We reconfigured the layout to make better use of the footprint we had, improved flow, and designed storage that actually suits how we live day to day (no wasted corners, no awkward gaps).

Working with Smile Kitchens made the whole process feel so much less overwhelming. Their designers really get how to maximise smaller, older homes while still creating something timeless and practical. I honestly couldn’t recommend them enough. Especially our kitchen designer Emma 🙌

✨2026 Reno Goals ✨

This year isn’t about starting new rooms… it’s about finally finishing the ones we left as a blank canvas and making them feel like us. More colour, comfort, and personality. We also need to make some very practical upgrades too 😅

🏡 Living room:
• Saying goodbye to the 8-year-old sofa that’s no longer comfy (it’s time 🫡)
• Giving our IKEA armchairs a glow-up with beautiful @bemzdesign covers
• Replacing the ugly grey rug with something brighter (blue or green, I’m looking at you 👀)
• Built-in alcove storage
• Painting the room using the perfect combo from @littlegreenepaintcompany — Clay + Clay Light to colour-cap the space

🪜 Stairs:
• Finish stripping them (pray for us)
• Hopefully paint them this year in @lick Blue15🤞

🛏️ Spare room:
• A cosy rug
• Cute curtains
• A fun paint colour (green is calling)
• Swapping the bed for something actually comfortable and pretty

🛌 Our bedroom:
• Finally adding wardrobe handles so we can open them properly 😅
• Proper blackout curtains
• A new comfy bed AND mattress because my back has simply had enough

2026 is the year of comfort, colour and finishing what we started.
