The town of Oleszno, Poland, officially named its cultural center for Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis on Sept. 16, 2026.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki, the Polish defense minister and Lt. Col. Nathaniel Welsh, commander of 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, attended the ceremony.

Ollis, a 10th Mountain Division Soldier, gave his life protecting Polish Army officer Karol Cierpica during an attack in Afghanistan in 2013.

Naming the center for Ollis gives his sacrifice a permanent place in Oleszno and reflects the bond between the United States and Poland.

Live fire leaves no room for guesswork.
2-22 Infantry Soldiers conducted a simulated attack, coordinating movement and fires while making decisions as a team. Finding and fixing gaps now builds a formation ready to fight and win when called.

Winning in dense terrain takes more than marksmanship. 2-22 Infantry Soldiers trained at Fort Drum to communicate, maneuver, and engage simulated enemy targets as one team. That cohesion turns individual skills into combat power.
