Michigan capabilities = National impact

Brig. Gen. Leah Voelker and Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Crocker welcomed Vice President JD Vance at Selfridge Air National Guard Base today, when he stopped over briefly for an off-base engagement.

Did you know that the @minationalguard's @127wing is the only @airnationalguard wing in the nation to host its own federal installation and operate its own airfield? Capable of supporting any aircraft in the @deptofwar fleet, we routinely support distinguished visitors and aircraft training from Michigan and beyond.

And just like that, it's been 70 years since our tanker first spread her wings!

On Aug. 31, 1956, the KC-135 Stratotanker made her first flight, at 136 feet long, with four engines and a full tank of dreams.

Since then, she’s become the powerhouse of global reach we know and love, carrying generations of Airmen and keeping the missions fueled around the world.

We always knew they were overachievers and as it turns out, the numbers agree. Less than 1% of enlisted Airmen earn the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.

Lt. Thomas Selfridge became the first U.S. military officer to pilot a powered aircraft 118 years ago today, when he flew Alexander Graham Bell's experimental “White Wing” just 10 feet above ground. Powered flight itself was barely four years old.

Today, the Airmen flying out of Selfridge embody that same courage that first carried Lt. Selfridge into the sky.

During December drill, A-10 weapons crews went head-to-head in the 2025 Load Crew of the Year competition.

From flawless checklists to lightning-fast load times, these Airmen prove why weapons is one of the most disciplined, detail-driven career fields in the Air Force. Every second matters when you’re the last hands on the jet before it goes to war.
