THE SHADOW DANCE — Giammarco Falcone at 12Antwerp

Following his residency at 12Antwerp, Giammarco Falcone (@falcone_giammarco) transformed the gallery into THE SHADOW DANCE, an exhibition where painting expands beyond the canvas and into the space itself.

Moving between figuration and abstraction, the works explore recurring ideas of the double, the mirror, shadow and light. Across the gallery, paintings, objects and spatial interventions come together as one installation, allowing the architecture to become part of the work.

After a month-long residency, Italian artist Giammarco Falcone (@falcone_giammarco) takes over 12Antwerp with a new immersive installation exploring painting beyond the canvas, through matter, space, reflections and shadows.

We’re very happy to invite you to join us for the opening, in the presence of the artist.

THE SHADOW DANCE

Following a month-long residency at 12Antwerp, Italian artist Giammarco Falcone (@falcone_giammarco) presents a new immersive installation created in direct dialogue with the gallery’s architecture.

Painting moves beyond the canvas, transforming the gallery into a landscape of matter, reflections and shadows, an environment to enter rather than simply observe.

The Hall brings together designers, artists, makers, and cultural voices from across disciplines and geographies within a single immersive landscape.

Furniture meets fashion. Jewellery confronts sculpture. Objects become carriers of identity, craftsmanship, ideology, and speculation.

More than an exhibition, The Hall exists somewhere between an installation, a salon, a cultural forum, and a social experiment, embracing friction, density, and unexpected proximity.

Mariane Ibrahim presents at 12 Antwerp

A dedicated showroom completes the presentation with works by artists from the gallery’s roster, including Clémence Gbonon, Ayana V. Jackson, Clotilde Jiménez, Leasho Johnson, Big Chief Demond Melancon, Ian Mwesiga, Carmen Neely, Zohra Opoku, Jennifer Rochlin, Peter Uka, amongst others.

Together, these works articulate distinct approaches to portraiture, narrative, and lived experience—foregrounding the complexities of identity, memory, and representation through materially and conceptually precise practices.

À l’occasion de l’Antwerp Art Weekend, la Librairie Mariane Ibrahim investit 12Antwerp avec un pop-up exceptionnel pensé comme une extension de la présentation de la galerie dans l’espace.

Développé en dialogue avec l’exposition de Slimen Elkamel et Raphaël Barontini, ce projet réunit leurs publications aux côtés d’une sélection d’ouvrages autour de l’art contemporain, de la photographie, de la littérature, de la mode et des pensées afro-diasporiques.

NOW ON VIEW I Slimen Elkamel | Antwerp Art Weekend

Mariane Ibrahim presents at 12 Antwerp
Through May 24, 2026

On the building’s ground floor, Slimen Elkamel presents a body of paintings rooted in the oral traditions of rural Tunisia and informed by a sustained writing practice. Working between spoken narrative and painted image, Elkamel treats storytelling as a living substance—mutable, carried through repetition, and shaped by what is remembered, omitted, or transformed over time. His palette and mark-making amplify this sense of transmission: color becomes a register of emotion, and the surface holds a layered temporality in which the personal and the collective remain in close proximity.
