I’m not an expert. I don’t know exactly where this is going.

I just know I’m not done finding out.

I’m a 42yo woman with a big goal, a coach, some data, and a ridiculous amount of curiosity about what my body can do.

This is 12 to Elite.
Come with me. by @12toelite

The last two weeks have been a little all over the place! 🏃‍♀️

Started out sick, managed to get a few runs in and deny below the neck symptoms, and then had to take three days completely off. But I came back stronger, and I've been getting my runs in again! 💪🏻

Life has been incredibly busy lately, and finding the time to train hasn't been easy. Since being on iron, I'm grateful that I don't have to find the energy anymore.

Tonight was one of those nights I didn't feel like running. But I went anyway, and I felt AMAZING, both during and after my run.

I've mentioned before that it's getting easier to ignore that voice telling me not to go. But lately I've noticed something different.

I'm starting to think that knowing how good I'm going to feel afterward is becoming my biggest motivation to get out there in the first place.

And I think that's actually a pretty big milestone. I'm still competitive with myself though so the process will never become the primary 👀

Not every week is going to go according to plan, but I'm still showing up, still making progress, and learning to love the process a little more along the way.

My left ankle and right hip joint feel a little mad lately. Gonna take it to my strength coach. Stay tuned . . .

Not sure who should be credited for this but this sums up how I've been feeling working out lately after a virus. by @12toelite

No dramatic breakthroughs. No massive PRs every week. Just workouts, setbacks, small improvements, and a whole lot of figuring things out.

I started 12 to Elite because I wanted to find out how far I could take my running in my 40s. And I'm realizing that most of that journey isn't particularly glamorous.

It's just doing the work. Again. And again.

So here's to the boring middle. Apparently, that's where the magic happens.

Been sick for a couple of days. Sometimes this is all I should do when taking care of my body is the priority. by @12toelite

Women of Instagram, I understand why this feels powerful to hear from a man, especially when so many men stay silent. But I also think we need to stop putting men on pedestals for doing what should be the bare minimum.

Speaking out against rape, caring about women’s safety, and telling other men that their silence is part of the problem should not make a man exceptional. It should be the baseline.

I’m glad he said it. I’m glad millions of people heard it. But the overwhelming praise and gratitude from women is what gets me. We have set the bar so low that a man publicly expressing basic human decency toward women feels remarkable.

Maybe instead of asking why more men aren’t like him, we should be asking why we’ve come to expect so little from men that this earns applause.

And to the men who genuinely care about this: please don’t stop at posting about it. Speak up when another man makes the joke. Challenge the friend who talks about women like they are objects. Take women seriously even when the man involved is someone you like. Pay attention to what happens in your workplaces, schools, teams, churches, organizations, and communities. Push the people with power to change the rules, practices, and policies that protect perpetrators or make it harder for women to be heard. Teach your sons differently. Hold your friends accountable. Intervene when something isn’t right.

Use the access, credibility, influence, and power you have in spaces women may not have access to.

Talking about rape matters. But talking about it cannot be the finish line.

Nothing but respect for you @a.j.spitz I'll come to your TED Talk 💜

40 minutes + hill strides in the dark 🌙

I really, really did not want to run tonight because hormones and whatever else.

But I laced up, went outside, and did it anyway. I told myself no more excuses.

And lately I’ve noticed something changing: it’s getting easier to fight the part of my brain that immediately wants to say no.

Not because I suddenly feel motivated every time.

I’m just getting better at going anyway.

Super glad I did tonight. 🖤 by @12toelite

A conversation with my 7yo, because Instagram has feelings about how many words I use. 😂 by @12toelite

Race week is rolling. A little more work to do, then it’s time to see what shows up on Saturday. 🏁

Nothing dramatic. Just staying consistent, keeping my legs moving, and trusting the process. by @12toelite
