I thought I was coming to Korea for a pottery course.

Instead, I left with a place that feels a little like home.

It’s strange how a country that isn’t yours can slowly become part of you. Not because of one big moment, but because of hundreds of little ones. The people who welcomed me, the meals I will forever crave, routines I created and will miss…

I went to Korea to learn how to shape clay.

However, Korea quietly shaped me too.

This isn’t goodbye.

It’s simply the end of a chapter that I already know I’ll continue one day.

Opening a wood kiln always feels a bit like Christmas.

You spend days wondering what’s happening inside, and then suddenly… you get to unwrap every piece.

Definitely one of my favourite days of the residency!

Day 14 & 15 at my pottery residency in Korea 🇰🇷

The last two days were all about keeping the fire alive 🔥

Early mornings, midnight shifts, very little sleep… and somehow I loved every minute of it.

Wood firing is hard work, but there’s something incredibly special about being part of this process.

Day 13 at my pottery residency in Korea 🇰🇷

Today we closed the wood kiln 🔥

Seeing all of our pieces finally loaded inside after days of work made everything feel very real.

Now all that’s left to do is trust the fire.

Day 10 in Korea 🇰🇷

Today I visited Rowon Studio, a place I’ve admired for a long time.

Thank you to Kwon Tae Young for so generously sharing your knowledge and making me feel so welcome.

I often get asked where to learn pottery in Korea, and if you’re planning a pottery trip, @kty_rowon also offers classes and workshops. It’s a beautiful place to learn, i definitely recommend it!

Day 9 at my pottery residency in Korea 🇰🇷

Today one moon jar didn’t survive the trimming… but it still taught me something.

Then we moved on to buncheong, a traditional Korean slip decoration technique, and finally started giving our pieces a bit more personality.

I ended the day exploring Icheon with my colleagues, and honestly, it still feels surreal to be in a town where everything revolves around pottery.

I almost ruined my favorite moon jar but thankfully Teacher Kwak showed me how to save it.
