What a great night in Albany at the New York State International Film Festival! 🎬 We had a great night with Jimmy Burch, Keely Segui, Paul Pender, and some wonderful company from playwright Aaron McNichols @aaronmc147 , watching a fantastic collection of short films, meeting filmmakers from around the Northeast, and taking part in some really engaging Q&As and panels.

I couldn’t be prouder to see my students’ work and Jimmy Burch’s directorial debut on the big screen! Pink Slip, featured as an Official Selection at this year’s festival. It was especially rewarding to hear the praise for Pink Slip after the screening and to see the film spark so much conversation, not only about the film itself, but about the state of filmmaking today, the future of the industry, and the complicated role AI is beginning to play in it.

A huge thank you to @nysiffalbany, the organizers, volunteers, filmmakers, and everyone involved in making the 11th annual New York State International Film Festival such a welcoming event.

Congratulations to the entire Pink Slip cast & crew:

Thank you again @nysiffalbany

The Velvet Key - Day Three - Color & Atmosphere

Inspired by the visual language of Marcell Rév, this shoot explored expressive color, stylized lighting, and emotional tone.

Cinematography led by Jesse J. Wakefield and Isaac Aceto (@isaac_a88).

Couldn’t be prouder of the students work pushing beyond realism, and taking risks, using color and light as storytelling tools.

Core Team
DoP: Jesse J. Wakefield
Camera: Isaac Aceto (@isaac_a88)
Camera Assist: Sean Senich
Grip: Paula C. Kim

Cast
Paula C. Kim
Oyama Leqela
Alex R. Cotto

Three shoots, three distinct visual approaches. Really proud of how this group is developing.

And a huge thank you to our actresses who brought consistency and presence across all three scenes. Excellent performances.

The Velvet Key - Day Two - Psychological Horror

A shift in tone into psychological horror, set within a mental institution. Cinematography led by Oyama Leqela.

This scene explores discomfort through framing, lighting, and performance. The color grade is still to come, but the visual foundation is already strong.

Core Team
DoP: Oyama Leqela
Camera: Elias M. Deleon (@bigeli70 on Twitch / YouTube)
Camera Assist: Todd J. Labbe (TJ)

Really strong atmosphere and control of tone in this one.

And again, huge credit to our actresses for delivering grounded and intense performances.

The Velvet Key (Day 1 - Exploring Genres - Film Noir)

Our Digital Cinematography class at CT State Middlesex opened with a classic noir lighting study, led by cinematography from Liam Sheppard.

Students worked with contrast, shadow shaping, and motivated light to build tension and depth in-camera. A strong start and a great example of visual storytelling through lighting.

DoP: Liam Sheppard
Camera: Tessa Travali
Camera Assist: Sadie N. Kennedy
Grip: Alex R. Cotto

Cast
Paula C. Kim

Couldn’t be prouder of the work here. And a huge thank you to our actresses for bringing the scene to life.

Bite Me: A Vampire Thriller

🦇 Bite Me, our second big production of Fall 2024, took us deep into the backwoods of Killingworth, CT, where we braved long nights, freezing temperatures, and plenty of technical challenges—all for an epic vampire battle!

Written & directed by Fisher Harris, Bite Me follows a group of friends on break when a vampire awakens to hunt down a legendary vampire-hunting family. Featuring intense VFX, reincarnation, and a battle across realms, this shoot was an unforgettable experience.

Shoutout to the crew:
🎬 Assistant Director: Michael Jordan
🎥 Cinematographer: Macaela Cain
🎭 Production Manager: Mara DeLuco
🩸 Production Designer & SFX: Shylee Emigh (brains blown up, blood spat, throats slashed—prosthetics, squibs, & fangs, you name it!)
🎥 Camera Op: Sebastian Guillen
⚡ Gaffer Extraordinaire: Zach Underwood
🎬 Head Grip: Thomas Blackmore
📽️ Documentarian: Luciano Prado

And a huge thanks to our amazing actors who brought this story to life. The film is currently in post-production—stay tuned for updates!

Also, a big thank you to CT State’s Center for New Media at MxCC for making this production possible!
