The 155th Air Refueling Wing Family Day was a blast, bringing our Airmen together with their spouses, kids, and extended families for an afternoon packed with laughs and good times. Everyone had a great time cheering at the dunk tank (especially when a few of our leaders took an unexpected splash), enjoying some carnival games, and getting a close-up look at our KC-135R Stratotanker with a guided tour.

A huge, heartfelt thank you to all the families who support our Airmen every day. Your love, patience, and the sacrifices you make behind the scenes are what keep us going and make our mission possible. We couldn't do this without you, and we're lucky to have our amazing families as part of the 155th team. by @155arw

Today, the 155th Air Refueling Wing paused to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

As Taps played, the Airmen reflected on the tragic events that took the lives of nearly 3,000 men, women and children in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C., on this day 25 years ago. They also honored the heroic acts by the first responders and remembered the thousands of others who would serve and sacrifice over the next quarter century in the Global War on Terrorism.
After 9/11, the world changed, the U.S. military changed, and the mission of the 155th Air Refueling Wing changed.

Within hours after the attacks, members of the Nebraska Air National Guard began voluntarily reporting to the base for expected duty. Among these airmen were members of the 155th Security Forces Squadron who immediately helped take the base to its highest security level in the base's history. The Airmen would remain on duty for nearly two years.

The Nebraska Air Guard flew its first combat missions in support of the Global War on Terrorism on the afternoon of Sept. 11, 2001, with tanker crews flying two support missions over the continental United States, refueling aircraft patrolling over American cities as part of the Operation Noble Eagle, in defense of the American homeland.

From that initial scramble to ongoing operations worldwide, thousands of Nebraska Airmen have carried the mission of national defense forward, driven by our Airmen's commitment to readiness, and an enduring promise to never forget.

250 Nebraska National Guard Soldiers and Airmen took part in an intensive CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) exercise at the Atlas Readiness Center in Yutan, Nebraska.

From radiation detection to interoperable tactical communications, this joint training ensures our teams can seamlessly integrate and save lives during large-scale emergencies.

Sometimes we refuel planes with guns, but this time we got to refuel a gun with a plane.

The KC-135 crew brought the gas station, the boom operator brought the precision, and the A-10 showed up with the attitude.

A few feet of separation, a lot of trust, and just enough “don’t mess this up” energy to make it happen. Behind every smooth refueling is a team of pilots and a boom operator making the impossible look routine.

Fuel delivered. Warthog fed. Everyone goes home happy.

After 32 years of dedicated service, the 155th Air Refueling Wing honored CMSgt Jody Kouma during her retirement ceremony on June 7, 2026.

Chief Kouma enlisted in the Nebraska Air National Guard in 1994 and built a career defined by service to others. Throughout her time in uniform, she served in information management, personnel, military equal opportunity, and as a first sergeant supporting Airmen across multiple units. She deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and other contingency operations, led with compassion as a senior enlisted leader, and remained committed to taking care of people at every stage of her career.

Most recently, Chief Kouma served as the Mission Support Group Senior Enlisted Leader, where she continued to mentor Airmen and strengthen the mission through her steady leadership and unwavering dedication.

Please join us in thanking Chief Kouma for her extraordinary service and wishing her and her family all the best in this next chapter.

After more than three decades of dedicated military service, the 155th Air Refueling Wing proudly honored Col. Wade Mueller during his retirement ceremony May 2, 2026, at Nebraska National Guard air base in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mueller began his Air Force career in 1992 and continued his legacy of leadership when he joined the Nebraska Air National Guard in 2018. During his time with the 155th ARW, he served as Deputy Commander, helping lead the wing through continued mission success while mentoring the next generation of Airmen.

Reflecting on a career spanning 23 years of active duty service and eight years with the Nebraska Air National Guard, Mueller thanked family, friends, and fellow Airmen who supported him throughout his journey.

During the ceremony, 155th ARW Commander Col. Christopher Hesse presented Mueller with the Legion of Merit, recognizing his exceptional leadership and lasting impact on the wing and its mission.

Thank you, Col. Mueller, for your unwavering service, leadership, and commitment to the Airmen of the 155th ARW and the nation. Wishing you and your family the very best in retirement! 🇺🇸✈️

The 155th Medical Group welcomed new leadership during a Change of Command ceremony on April 11, 2026.

Col. Angela M. Ling assumed command following her promotion to colonel, succeeding Col. Brooke M. Sciuto, who led the unit through a period of high operations, deployments, and key medical readiness achievements.
