79 years of the U.S. Air Force means 79 years of taking to the skies, pushing the limits and giving us plenty of reasons to celebrate. ✈️🇺🇸

And what better way to celebrate than with a little Ohio Air National Guard airpower?

Three aircraft. Three Ohio Guard bases. One formation. And, naturally, the 178th Wing leading the way. 😉

Here’s to 79 years of airpower and another year of keeping Ohio in the air and the mission moving forward.

Happy birthday, U.S. Air Force! 🎂✈️ by @178th_wing

Twenty-five years later, we continue to reflect on a day that changed our nation and shaped generations that followed.

For some, Sept. 11, 2001, was the day they watched history unfold. For others, it became a reason to serve. Many of the people who answered that call went on to fight overseas, sacrificing their very lives in the name of our nation.

The impact of 9/11 reaches far beyond the lives tragically lost that day. It changed our military, shaped the way we live and work, and influenced the paths of countless people who chose to serve their country.

Twenty-five years later, we carry the memory of those we lost with us. We honor their lives through the work we do today, the lessons we pass on and the generations we prepare to carry that legacy forward.

Today, members of the 178th Wing fire protection specialists climbed the stairs in their firefighting gear to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11, 2001.

We remember. We honor. We carry it forward. by @178th_wing

Caring for the community beyond the gate. 🩺

From July 31 to Aug. 2, National Guard members from across Ohio came together at Ohio University for GuardCare 2026, providing no-cost health services to residents of Athens County. 🏥

Airmen from the 178th Wing Medical Group joined the event, putting their medical experience to work alongside Guard members from across the state. Over the three-day event, the team provided preventive care while connecting with patients and other medical professionals from throughout Ohio.

GuardCare gives National Guard medical professionals the opportunity to use their skills outside of their normal work environment while supporting communities across the state. For the 178th Wing Medical Group, it was another opportunity to serve Ohioans and represent the Wing beyond the gate. ✈️

200+ Airmen. One ruck. Zero complaints… well, almost zero.

More than 200 service members from across Ohio came together Aug. 28 to take on the Royal Danish Air Force March, a 12.4-mile ruck designed to test endurance, determination and teamwork.

Participants carried 23+ pounds of gear throughout the march, tackling more than 12 miles on foot with no time limit. Whether they pushed the pace or took it one mile at a time, everyone who participated took on the same challenge and crossed the finish line with a few more miles to their name.

From setting the pace to motivating each other through the tougher miles, participants showed that the challenge is a little easier when you take it on together.

One step and one sore foot at a time. 🎒💪

The group chat finally made it past the "we should get together sometime."

The Air Force brought five vendors to the 178th Wing in Springfield, Ohio to test rapidly deployable Command and Control Enclave prototypes Aug. 5-7 in an environment similar to those where airmen could eventually use them: within an expeditionary combat situation.

Rather than selecting a single piece of technology and testing it later, Air Force officials used the demonstration to compare multiple prototypes at once and gather feedback from the operators who could ultimately use the technological capabilities of the equipment.

The group chat has receipts. Full story linked in the comments 👇 by @178th_wing

Investing in tomorrow’s leaders, today.

Brig. Gen. Clarence K. Maynus Jr., Ohio assistant adjutant general for Air, and Chief Master Sgt. Edward N. Taylor III, Ohio Air National Guard state command chief master sergeant, met with more than 300 Airmen from the 178th Wing on June 6, 2026.
