Empowering survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Monmouth County, NJ, to find the strength and courage to turn their lives around.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Thank you to the NJ Coalition to End Domestic Violence (@njcedv_) for partnering with us on our October screening of “Men of Courage”.

We appreciate everyone who joined us to watch and discuss this powerful documentary by Byron Hurt, featuring New Jersey men working to end domestic violence.

Men have an important role to play in preventing domestic violence and sexual assault. This film challenges men to speak up, get involved, and become part of the solution in their communities. We encourage men to watch the film and consider how they can take action to prevent violence.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we recognize the impact of domestic violence in our community and the importance of supporting both survivors and those who respond to their calls for help.

In Monmouth County, 2,199 domestic violence criminal complaints were reported from 2023-2024, and from FY 23-25, 180 responded to 1,892 callouts to police headquarters through our Domestic Violence Response Team.

As part of our ongoing commitment to survivors, 180 was proud to host our Domestic Violence Symposium for Law Enforcement, bringing together law enforcement professionals to share strategies for supporting officer resilience, wellness, and well-being.

Thank you to 180's Law Enforcement Liaison Sue Levine for organizing this meaningful event, and to Sheriff Golden and County Commissioner Thomas A. Arnone for hosting us.

We are also grateful to First Assistant Prosecutor Julia Alonso for her support, Detective Michelle Tucker of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Bureau–Domestic Violence Unit, for leading an important wellness training, 180 Director of Advocacy Programs Ashley Butler, and a survivor, for courageously sharing her personal story and perspective.

Supporting those who respond to domestic violence is important to ensuring that survivors receive compassionate, informed, and effective care.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, support 180’s work to promote safety and well-being for people of all ages. Donate at the link in bio.

180 CEO Liz Graham authored an op-ed in ROI-NJ examining New Jersey’s Survivors Justice Act and why a history of abuse should be considered at sentencing.

In this piece, Liz explores how domestic violence, sexual violence, and coercion can affect the choices people make and why that history is relevant when determining accountability for a crime.

The Survivors Justice Act allows courts to consider qualifying histories of abuse during sentencing and provides eligible survivors with a pathway to seek resentencing.

Sometimes, the things we feel are the hardest things to put into words.

And sometimes, creativity gives us another way.

As part of our ongoing spotlight on 180 Turning Lives Around, we're sharing the work of Amanda's Easel, a free creative arts therapy program supporting children and families affected by domestic violence.

Through art, play, drama, and music, children are given space to explore emotions, build confidence, and communicate in ways that feel safe to them.

At Josie Bo, we often talk about how creativity is about so much more than the thing we make. It's about the experience, the expression, and the connections that happen along the way.

Amanda's Easel is a powerful reminder of just how meaningful that process can be.

As 180 celebrates 50 years of service, we're honored to help shine a light on the work they've been doing for our community.
