I got a tad excited about getting in on the ballot for the 2027 Paris Marathon. Unfortunately I’m going to have to decline it. I didn’t know the actual date when entering the ballot (school boy error there), and it clashes with something more important. My daughter will be competing at the Irish Dancing World Championships the same weekend so France will have to wait for me to conquer it.
I’ll just enter the ballot again next year.

Guess I better make a plan then……
Training, logistics, accommodation and getting fuelling the body correct. Won’t be any feed stations like on the ultramarathons. And it’s running on concrete, I hate running on concrete and prefer being amongst the trees. But it is Paris, so it’ll be a scenic and joyous and fun. And full expressions like ‘oh my god my legs are tired, please be the end, can I just stop now’.

But in all seriousness. I didn’t think I’d get in on the ballot, but I have. So I’ll work on a plan and get my running going. Winter training in the cold and rain, let’s get it on.

London was done in 2018 (albeit getting injured and hobbling and I want to do that again without any injury).

2027 is when I conquer France!

Saw this leaf with dew drops on my dog walk this morning and thought I’d try a bit of an arty shot.

The caterpillars are starting to do their thing. The moors will soon be covered in the eerie looking silk again.

Track was a bit wet in places today. Good session though at @hawksbmxclub
Bike is now clean. A bit of TLC needed on it tomorrow now.

The old school rides of crew for yesterday’s Santa Cruise through London. First one for the two of us and we had a great day. Weather was good, brandy and whisky shots for the adults were great and a few ales on route two. Nice to see the sights and take over Oxford Street with all the BMX’s. Santas everywhere. Oh, and I stacked it on the Mall just by Buckingham Palace doing a sit down wheelie!

Getting the old girl ready for Santa Cruise at the weekend. Had a little panic when the thread on the front brake cable clamp stripped though when adjusting the brakes.
Hopefully the new bit turns up tomorrow……..I mean it would be nice to have breaks that work 🫣

Track to myself this morning mainly practicing the third straight. Came away happy as I got a few manuals in clearing a section a few times which I have never been able to do before!

With three weeks until my 100k event or 62miles if you prefer miles like me. I did my long training day at the weekend which turned into the furthest I’ve been in one session, be that training or an actual ultra marathon. Did this as a run walk session. Went alright but got a little ache in the groin around 32miles. That could be fueling or just tiredness although my walking poles turned up doing this session so hopefully they’ll help when I’m really knackered doing the event.
But….I’m very happy with this and the legs weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be Sunday. Maybe the few dances to some Ska tunes on Saturday night helped out!

Long run Sunday. I’ve wanted to get the train into Paddington and run home along the canal for a long time now, so today I did it. Nice route and I enjoyed doing it.

Very happy with today’s racing at @runnymede_rockets
Bike worked well, although I was a tad slower out of the gate and race times compared to last season and I’m only talking tenths of seconds but…..I made it to the semi finals and my first B Final in the 50+ Grand Veterans category. Plus I didn’t stack it like I did doing the Deep South race back in February so got the confidence going again.
I’m ow in my second season of racing and moved up an age category and still up against guys who’ve been doing it for years/decades. Every race is a chance to learn and get better.
All the riders for @hawksbmxclub put in great performances, good day all round.
