new york ironweed my debut poetry book comes out TODAY! ✨new york ironweed won Fence's 2025 Ottoline Prize and hits bookstores in time for spring! 🌱Thank you to everyone at FENCE and especially to @emilywallishughes and @jasonzuzga for bringing this weird, witchy, and wild poetry book out into the world! And @ninyabruja Order new york ironweed from bookshop.org or ask for it at your local independent bookstore. it is available today nationally. Some of the bookstores that already have it in stock are @booksaremagicbk @bookculture @powellsbooks @citylightsbooks @center4fiction @wordvirusbooks The poems are strange and witchy little creatures. They play with language which decomposes by poem's end, much in the way that plants decompose back into the soil.The poems are intentionally "imperfect" allowing for any typos or misspellings reflecting nature's imperfections.In a time of climate crisis and insect crisis, my hope is that these playful poems do their part to address "plant blindness" and draw people's attention to the wild plants all around us and their importance to the survival of our species.As you walk through the city, you can carry it with you and look for the weeds and flowers growing from cracks in the sidewalk.I'll be reading with @fencetagram New Orleans April 17 at the New Orleans Poetry Festival @neworleanspoetry More readings to come! Yesterday in Coney Island, something wonderful happened!Two really cool women who love Coney Island asked to buy the posters of my cyanotype poems!They bought the one I had of the phrase "by the roadside neglect me and I will thrive."and ordered copies of the slip and slither one.Both posters are from original Cyanotypes I made using local flowers and weeds and hand drawn lines from my poems in new york ironweed from @fencetagram The posters cost $50 and will be available for pick up in Coney Island.Oh, and Jamie just happened to have a tattoo of Daisy Fleabane a very common local weed here in BrooklynI'm deciding what size order to place from a printer. We made cyanotypes in Coney Island using the @jacquardproducts in ocean water!! This is the first time this has ever been done in Coney Island!For the June 13th prints, Amanda Deutch, Eliza Rinn, Jeanny Hernandez, Coco McPherson, Maylyn ‘Zero’ Iglesias, and Marisol Gaytan went out onto the beach together. See the results of our collaboration and public art installation in Coney Island on West 12th Street (in the cul de sac next to the boardwalk.)Coney Island Community Cyanotypes gathers a variety of people from the Coney Island neighborhood to create a community work of art. This project is more than the creation of a work of art, it is a community engaging happening! All are welcome! Todos son bienvenidos! This project is ongoing if you’d like to join follow @parachute_literary_arts for updates.These 9 prints include Coney Island lifeguards, a father and daughter we met on the beach, Coney Island residents, photographers, and the owner of one of the best restaurants in Coney Island @donazita.coneyisland 🌮My vision as an artist and a poet is to engage everyday people as participants in art. Eastern Yellow Tiger Swallowtail butterfly!This is the first one I've seen yet this year.I usually see them in mid to late summer when it's much hotter out.Strangely, it's drizzling, cloudy and kind of cool-- not typically butterfly weather.This is your reminder to plant pollinators and of course to Eat the Weeds!#Brooklynwildlife #brooklyn #pollinators by @1_800_manda
