a somewhat simplified and watered-down system on how i rate the books i read.

hot take: i don’t think 3 stars is a bad book. i usually consider these the books that don’t have objectively “well written” writing, but i still had a good time reading it (i put a lot of popular booktok books into this category). i go into a lot of books with low or neutral expectations so the 5 stars will truly blow me away.

hi, i’m lauren, reintroduced through the books that shaped me, to celebrate 1k followers.

that felt like an impossible number when i started this.
i appreciate every person ive connected with in our niche corner of the internet, bonding over knowledge, escapism, and our love of literature.

1,000 people showed up to something i almost didn’t start (or come back to). i won’t forget that.

there’s been an influx of new faces recently and i realized i never fully introduced myself when i began posting on bookstagram. and there’s no better timing than the start of a new year. 🌟🕯️

i love the idea of showing more of myself here bc its interesting to learn who is behind all the faceless creators who post these beautiful collections of literature. we’re all so much deeper and complex than social media portrays and that’s an enlightening experience to witness. i’d love to know more about you all too: leave a fun fact about yourself. ☕️

october chapters from my camera roll (so far) 💌

the month has been filled with standing at the top of a bookstore staircase and staring embarrassingly long in awe, then leaving with girl, interrupted.

found gf crepes & lost my voice at a beabadoobee/wisp concert, and finished we could be rats by emily austin - a new favorite.

upcoming surgery means my posts may become sparse again but i’m hoping to prepare some posts in advance (kinda obsessed with reels 🕯️) taken in Quail Ridge Books by @1aurens1ibrary

my wildly overambitious fall tbr (on top of the books I’ve already started, because restraint is for other people)

katabasis and never let me go: the back-to-school academia atmosphere i yearn for during this season, finally earning their spot off the shelf after far too long.

american psycho has topped my list every autumn. i’ve been waiting for the right headspace to descend into its dark serial killer mind games. this is the year!

v.e. schwab is the perfect autumn/winter read, no matter the title. special mention for vicious and vengeful but this is already overly ambitious as it is.

the damage: far too many 400+ page books & not enough time.

my current reads as an impulsive mood reader 💌

happy humpday. i have a problem. a confession. i keep picking up books and then starting a different one. nothing is hitting the spot for me and i also have an october tbr outside of this. 🤭 anyone else have this problem? just me?

started we could be rats this month. i’m a LOVER of emily austin’s writing but the dark themes in this book is sending me down a dark path rn, i had to take a break.

just started the bloody chamber—as my first angela carter novel—and it’s brilliant.

want to know what else is brilliant? my brilliant friend by elena ferrante. started this during my nyc trip and im loving it, despite having a tough time picking it up.

i added legends and lattes in for something cute and cozy after we could be rats started sending me spiraling lmao. cute, but a slow read.

bookish places i visited in nyc 🍎

surprised my husband with an nyc trip last week for his bday. this was technically both of our first true times visiting the big apple and fully confirmed how much of a city gal i am. we spent most of our time doing site seeing tourist destinations, but i was able to sneak in some last minute bookish visits📖

currently reading: the god of the woods by liz moore.

a year of side-eyeing this book on my shelf, talked myself out of it more times than i can count because of the mixed reviews. summer felt like the right time to stop overthinking it 🤸 🌲
