Delighted to say a photo from my “Sublicks and Lackeens” project has been shortlisted in the first year of the Irish Photo Prize created by @taylorwessingllp and @photomuseumirl . The 2026 theme is community and asked entrants to submit work that explores what it means to live together in Ireland today.

Work Description 👇

Christening Day shows a young mother preparing for her son’s Christening at a horse fair. This is from my project Sublicks and Lackeens. This project invites the viewer to look at Traveller children for what they are: children. Through candid portraits and intimate scenes, these photographs show moments of pride, playfulness and mischief, traits shared by all children. The project aims to challenge negative stereotypes forged by The Report of the Commission on Itinerancy 1963, which marked the first systematic attempt by the Irish government to “settle” travellers and force assimilation. The report outlined steps to be taken in order to “promote their [travellers] absorption into general society”. Particularly harrowing was the threat of institutional care for children. The report outlined children could be used as a tool for assimilation, stating “a separation of parents and children would result in the children growing up outside the itinerant life and thus in one generation, itinerants as a class would disappear”. With this recommendation, some children were moved into institutional care. The effects of the state’s efforts to remove and exclude Travellers are still reflected in the lives of Traveller youths today. They experience significantly worse healthcare and education outcomes than the general population. While the reasons for this are multifaceted, research across the board cites lack of trust and discrimination as leading barriers.

7th Annual @iova_collective Culture Night Exhibition ‘Human Touch’ Opens Sept 18th @reds_gallerydublinofficial 💫

Theme: “In a time when so much of our lives is mediated by technology, Human Touch reflects on the importance of physical presence, craftsmanship and genuine human connection, exploring everyday experiences that cannot be replicated or replaced, from the warmth of sunlight on skin to the comfort of a reassuring smile.”

👇📸📖

My portrait of Mike Coffey, aka The Biddy Man. Mike Coffey is one of the last traditional straw hat makers in Ireland. His unique and beautiful hats are hand crafted with skills Mike Coffey learnt from his own grandfather, and now passes down to his own grandchildren to keep the Kerry tradition of The Biddy alive.

Well done and big thanks to all my fellow @iova_collective committee members for making the exhibition happen year after year 💪💝

Na Saoirsí 🤝 @freedomtwirlermajorettes 💙💙

Na Saoirsí, or The Liberties, is one of the oldest parts of Dublin, just outside the inner city. The name comes from medieval times when this land lay outside the walls of Dublin City. This meant that the area was exempt from the taxes and laws of the city, hence the term “Liberties”. by @1eurofiddy
