Today I had the privilege and honor to walk with my sister and niece at the @americancancersociety Breast Cancer Walk. My sister is a survivor. I’ve lost Grandmother, Aunt, and other family member x friends. My first car I had a breast cancer license plate. We continue the battle for those who are not here and those still fighting the fight. 💗💓🩷 #breastcancerawareness🎀 by @1gjones2

Yesterday was dope!!!

Courtesy of my brother @taroue , I had the opportunity to visit the Obama Presidential Center with my Mom, Mrs. Myrna, and Mrs. Cheryl. What an amazing experience!

As I get older, I realize the true value of moments like these. Experiencing history, appreciating culture, and creating memories with people you love.

Life isn’t just about what you accomplish. It’s about what you experience, who you share it with, and the memories you create.

If you haven’t been yet I highly suggest going. I can’t wait to go back.

Today is a tough one.

Karim would’ve turned 30 today.

It’s been eight years since we lost him, and there are some things I’ve never really talked about publicly.

When Karim died, I stopped bringing international kids to America.

I just couldn’t do it anymore.

I had spent years helping young people leave everything they knew, come to this country, chase an education and pursue their dreams through basketball. When parents trusted me with their children, I took that personally.

Losing Karim changed me.

I know his illness wasn’t something I could control. I know there was nothing I could have done to change what happened. Emotionally, I couldn’t separate those things. The thought of bringing another kid thousands of miles away from their family and something happening to them on my watch was more than I could handle.

So I stopped.

Eight years later, I still think about him. I think about the life he should be living right now. The man he would’ve become. The conversations we would be having. The things he would have accomplished.

Today isn’t about basketball. It’s about somebody I loved and still miss.

Happy 30th birthday, Karim.
