“Pigeons in the Park” — Feb 2025

My debut as both playwright and director.
This script was born in a writing class led by the Catherine Coray. The prompt? Thanksgiving.

The play orbits the themes of family, displacement, and food, but never names them outright. It’s all in the code, which made it such a joy to revisit with these brilliant actors 🫶

Ace and Sage live on in other scripts, in new shapes but always tethered by care, patience, and a quiet understanding.

Extremely grateful to @nyuthecollective for building year-round spaces where Black and POC artists can breathe and create outside the usual limits locked to our identities ✨

Meet the cast of ✨QUEERÍSIMO✨ Playing Luis Enrique and Donald Trump as well as choreographing for the show is: Ihsanah Iman.

Ihsanah is a NYC-based actor, singer, theatre-maker, and alum of NYU Tisch’s Experimental Theatre Wing. She is honored to be part of Queerísimo, where she has the joy of embodying several figures from queer Latin history while assistant choreographing alongside artists they deeply admires and respects. They are grateful to celebrate these stories with such a passionate and dedicated cast and crew. Previous credits include The Adventures of Virginia and Orlando by Kevin Khulke and FRNKNSTN by Jaclyn Backhaus. When not performing, she can be found dancing and talking to strangers, their favorite aspect of queer culture.

A collection of objects isolated in their abandon: decay, sustenance, protection, and revolution

Through a lifetime of constant shifts, increasing greed, and short-lived prosperity
I will be a witness of the small battles, micro-structures, and seemingly minuscule moments of joy.
Sympathizing with stories I haven’t heard,
Piecing together words to form a narrative that might bring solace to the silenced,
Then listening closely when I hear the small whispers of truth.
And when my hearing fails me, snuffed out by my perspectives I’ve yet to shift,
I will witness,
I will observe,
and try again. by @1hsanah
