﴿﴾⫘﴿﴾⫘﴿﴾⫘BUILT THE HARD WAY⫘﴿﴾⫘﴿﴾⫘﴿﴾

There are few places in Los Angeles that feel as alive with possibility as the Arts District. Tucked inside a creative loft on the top floor overlooking the city, I sat down with filmmaker, music agent, musician, and friend @danielmccartney just days after the first screening of his debut film, One Of One. The setting felt fitting. Like the neighborhood itself, Daniel’s career has been built by refusing to stay inside a single lane. From touring the world as a musician to helping shape artists behind the scenes, and now stepping confidently into filmmaking, every chapter has been driven by the same thing: an unwavering vision and the work ethic to match.

That perspective is glaring in @1of1movie, a psychological thriller that Daniel wrote, directed, and stars in, alongside longtime collaborators. From my perspective having known Daniel for years, the films’s a culmination of years spent trusting an internal voice that others may not have always seen.

Along the way, he faced the same doubts that follow many creatives: imposter syndrome, peer criticism, and the pressure of reinventing himself in public. But rather than allowing those voices to define him, Daniel doubled down on preparation, collaboration, and the belief that meaningful work requires vulnerability. The result is a film built not only from technical execution, but from personal transformation.

My most relatable moment in our conversation was the mutual belief that creative fulfillment rarely comes from staying comfortable. Every chapter of his story has required walking away from certainty in pursuit of something more authentic, trusting that his work ethic would carry him where experience couldn’t yet.

Whether performing on stage, representing artists, or directing a feature, Daniel continues to prove that the people who build the most meaningful careers aren’t chasing titles—they’re chasing the next opportunity to create something that feels true. That’s what being “Built The Hard Way” has always meant.
