The bathrooms will be tiled with colourful versions of the black and white design in the kitchen. The first tests are out of the kiln and looking good. by @1ruedesportesdeville

A big section of the kitchen tile panel is now up.

An irregular design of overlapping circles, the panel is made up of 6 different simple components. The complexity comes when trying to compose a balanced and energetic design. The composition is finalised on site. Each new section reacting to what has been set in stone already.

About 150 tiles are up. Just a further 600 to be fired and transported over from London.

Best recent French grammar hack I’ve learnt is that when you panic and brain fog prevents you remembering if something is masculine or feminine just order two. This works well in the boulangerie where there is limited financial impact! by @1ruedesportesdeville

The oak floor in the salon is having its final sanding. Half the room is now complete, so days away from varnishing.

All done by hand. Multiple rounds of wet scrubbing with wire wool. And now two rounds of hand sanding to remove final traces of old wax and oil.

The floor was put down in the 30s when the building was converted - presumably from a convent - into a tailors shop. This room was used as the tailor’s showroom.

A spontaneous decision to place this mirror on the salon mantle piece has unexpectedly brought the colours and textures in the room together. The warm white and gold detailing of the frame echo the hues within the unpainted plaster wall to balance with the previous dominance of the pale yet punchy pink.

The pink is from the @michelleogundehin range at @graphenstonepaintsuk by @1ruedesportesdeville

Earlier in the year the first experimental stripes of colour went up in the attic. A random starting point as it’s difficult to imagine what’s going to work. It’s not really a blank canvas as the space has dynamic drama that makes you gasp when you reach the top of the stairs. The space is like a barn on top of the house containing a cluster of intimate cubicle rooms probably dating back to when the building was a convent. Soon it will be a self contained apartment with a creative studio space destined to host an artist residency programme as early as next summer. by @1ruedesportesdeville
