JASMINE might be the first actual song I ever wrote.
Which is crazy bc featured on this song is one of Dallas’s greatest @1tommyraps
This one got professionally produced by a Mr. @nathandoutt a million years after it was originally created. lol
Big up to the homie.
This song also has had a @colabband version that I would still love to perform sometime. Maybe I can convince the homies to play a slice of this next Thursday at @willcallbar
Cover art was a joint effort between myself and @chanoahlouise
I’d give it an 80/20 split she definitely carried the team lol 🖼️ 🔥

In case y’all missed it, Black History Month has been extended until further notice!

March is also a month where we celebrate women and music in our schools! In light of all of that, I asked Tommy Raps to feature Sister Rosetta Tharpe in his Black History Month series for March.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s birthday is on March 20th, and we will be celebrating her heavenly birthday @swanstrings with a free community gathering at our inaugural Behind the Strings: Music Symposium on March 21st, 12 PM-6 PM at St. Paul UMC. 🎸

The event features a free guitar workshop, keynote speaker, film screening and a live musical tribute. Registration is required.

To register, visit our website at swanstrings.com. 🦢

Thank you Tommy for another collaboration and the shout out!

Blk History ‘26 - 04 - “House Music / Ballroom Culture”

William Dorsey Swann was an enslaved black man credited with hosting the first balls in 1880 - often ending in police raids.

Frankie Knuckles, was an American DJ, record producer, and remixer. He played an important role in developing and popularizing house music, a genre of music that began in Chicago during the early 1980s and subsequently spread worldwide.

The combination of high energy house and fierce ballroom expression would create two forces that would forever impact the globe, as seen in much media, fashion, and many trends today.

Independent research advised, watch “Paris is Burning” - have fun!

Blk ‘26 - 03 - The Folding Chair / “The Montgomery Riverfront Brawl”

In 1911, a particular variation of the folding chair was patented by Nathaniel Alexander. His creation included the addition of a book holder on the side of the seat area, which became a a staple at schools, churches, and other popular grounds for public gatherings.

On August 2023, the folding chair was forever memorialized by way of an altercation stemming from what some suggested to have been racially charged, considering Alabama’s historically dicey undertones.

The “Montgomery Riverfront Brawl” alternatively known as “Fade in the Water” was an occurrence of one Damien Pickett attempting to have the owner of a pontoon boat move his vehicle, which was ILLEGALLY PARKED in a space reserved for a riverfront cruise boat, the Harriett II, which at the time held 227 passengers.

After the owner of the pontoon boat(a Caucasian male) ran up and initially attacked Pickett viciously, immediately prompting the (white males’) drunken cohorts to jump Pickett, many bystanders of color rushed to the aid of Pickett to help quell the events with maximum efficiency.

August 5th is now renowned by many as a significant moment in time where the entire world was briefly made aware of the underlying tensions in America, and the unity against racial tyranny.

Remember,
it’s ALWAYS that deep!
