I am thrilled with my result today at the @chimarathon. Having to adjust your goal time two weeks before the race after training for months was a little worrisome. So was going out way to fast #neveranegativesplitter but I got it done! 3:11:12 a 8+ min BQ which should get me in for 2025.
A more detailed race report to come.
All in all a great day for team 2020visionrunning, 2 out of 2 BQs!! So proud of @tickled_ink the “I’m not a runner” runner on her first marathon
So freakin proud!

Tour de Mont Blanc you lived up to the hype! 8 days 179km and over 10,000m climbed. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, great food, many friendships made and even more memories.
If you have the TMB on your bucket list, do not hesitate to do it! And feel free to ask me for any help, I would love to relive it again and again.
Now on to some more adventures and a little relaxing.

The victory lap recap. I’d already reached my goal just being there. The race was just a @mikespastry pistachio cannoli on top. So where to start? It was a little chaotic rush to hopkinton and the start line, but really , who wants to wait around anyways!? It’s go time ! It’s really happening! The sun was brazing but the temperature at the start wasn’t too bad. Off the start I stuck to an easy relaxed pace, which is never the case. When you hear that the race starts on a downhill no one is lying! But what the don’t tell you and what I questioned , was all the little hills before “the hills of newton” definitely add up. Early on I wasn’t feeling great, HR was elevated into threshold pace and it really never dropped nor soared…. So that’s good??? I guess? No! I knew my 3:10 goal was never going to happen and really it shouldn’t have, realistically there just wasn’t enough 3:10 training over the cycle. Anyways the Boston route came to party and holy crap did they ever! Over the top yes, and was it needed, absolutely! I don’t think there was a lull in the crowd from start to finish. Around the 16-18k mark I noticed my km splits started to slow a bit, I would give it a push for a few more but I realized I they weren’t dropping. Except for the Wellesley scream tunnel, where I had my fastest split 😬🙄 and where I almost ended my day by clotheslines from other high-fiving runners. Then the hills, the paces obviously slid some more. I wasn’t recovering enough from the descents ( I actually didn’t even notice them) they felt like one after another. Seeing the fam half way up was a boost and using every family member currently fighting or who lost their battles got me up and over the top. Now just a breezy 10k into Boston. I picked up the pace here and there but really it was just a gritty performance to not stop and finish. This wasn’t the victory lap I’d envisioned but I wouldn’t have it any other way. This solo running introvert made 30 thousand new friends and a few friendships that will carry on to the next chapter of run life. 💙 💛 @maddymccal @runwithlaraye @mommer_do_run @tesschupinsky @runner_jessss @chargrove15

My top 3 tips to help you prepare for your first ultra marathon after training for my first.

1. Focus on time on your feet, not just pace
Every run doesn’t need to be about speed.
Sometimes the real goal is simply spending more time moving. Coming from road running this might take some time to understand. Be aware of race cutoff times, but don’t let them control every workout. Ultra training is about building endurance and teaching your body to keep going for hours, not chasing fast splits every run.

2. Back-to-back long runs can be a game changer
Doing a longer run one day and a shorter run the next helps your body adapt to running on tired legs.
Think something like 30km -(20 miles) on Saturday followed by 20km (10-12miles) on Sunday without turning it into total misery. Learning to push through fatigue is part of what prepares you for race day. One long run a week is not always enough for ultras. Just do this knowing how your body will react.

3. Practice your fueling strategy on every long run
Experiment with different foods and calorie sources during training. Sticking to the exact same fuel every time might feel safe until your stomach disagrees deep into a race. Use long runs to train your gut and figure out what works so race day doesn’t come with surprises. Remember you’ll be taking a lot more fuel in than you’re use to.

Taking it back to this day 2023. One of the greatest moments in Sale family sports. Here’s what @alicia__m__s wrote …

I’m still me, but I am not the same person I was who started the 2023 Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning.
I am feeling so many things and it’s hard to put them all out there into words. I am SO grateful for the support of my amazing family.
To my daughters who understood what a “long run day” meant this summer, and who inspired me to try something new and to not give up - I hope I proved to you that you don’t have to be so tough that it doesn’t hurt, you just have to be tough enough not to quit! You are my motivation! Never back down!
YOU can do anything!
To my parents for knowing I was crazy but still understanding and supporting me with this accomplishment, and to my sister who encouraged me to never stop reaching MY goals, and my in laws and extended family who praised and applauded the journey - thank you! Love you!
To my friends who I received so many kudos and thumbs up from on my weekly km’s and running posts - thanks for not unfollowing me!
And to my husband @2020vision_running my coach, my mentor and the person who started me on this crazy running journey, who somehow convinced me to run this marathon and consistently told me to believe in myself. Thank you is not enough. You never stopped believing in me and I guess you weren’t wrong. You are an amazing coach and truly set up a running plan that worked for my lifestyle, my work schedule, my body, my goals and I succeeded!

Not only did I finish, I never stopped. I flew in ahead of the time my coach set for me and I even qualified to run the Boston Marathon.
But that’s not really what matters.
I enjoy pushing myself beyond my boundaries. I try not to compare myself to others. I am no better than anyone, but I am better than I was yesterday.
We all have ditterent abilities, litestyles, available time, body types, goals. I put in the ettort and I got the results that | deserved!
I am stronger, braver, and I believe in myself even more. Running has changed my life. I am a better version of myself. What more can I ask for?

another weekend another 40km+ training run.
Zombie start but found my groove midway and was cruising all the way home.

I really have to find a trail a little closer to home next time. 40k in pretty sweet conditions on the @niagarabrucetrailclub. I just made it off the trail before dark and what am I most proud about? Not an ankle roll, or nose dive the entire run. by @2020vision_running

The euro cold can leave anytime soon, I’m sick of it Training can’t wait to let it pass. Another long run, maybe hit 75k this week by @2020vision_running
