I transferred to UCF two years ago with zero intention of cheering. I wanted to focus on my major, and move past the sport I love so much. The universe knew I wasn’t done. The universe gave me UCF Club Cheer. I can’t even begin to describe how life changing this entire experience has been. I would have never thought that this path would have taken me to the bandshell.

There’s a certain point in a high school cheerleaders career where the idea of competing on the bandshell turns into a dream. The nations best athletes, the best teams all step foot onto that bandshell. It’s an “I made it” kind of moment. Coming from Littleton, New Hampshire with intermediate cheerleading abilities, heading to college, the bandshell was always a dream. The bandshell was never something I believed I would achieve. But im sitting here, with tears in my eyes writing to say, Mom. Your 12 year old fat kid sitting in the Husson dorms sobbing that his feet have never hurt more in his life and that he wants to quit cheer and come home, made it onto the bandshell. I did it. I made it.

This program taught me how to be an athlete, taught me how much work goes into putting a routine out onto that floor and taught me that the work is truly worth it. No matter the outcome, no matter our placement, I have never been more proud of a team, and of myself. This year has been one of the hardest years of my entire life and I truly cannot believe that even through all of it. I made it. I love this team, I love this program, and I love NCA.
