A moment can change everything – so can awareness. Every 9 seconds, someone experiences a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story of recovery. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and Washington’s TBI Council is making 19 years of progress in prevention, research and recovery support. Find resources and support at https://www.dshs.wa.gov/altsa/traumatic-brain-injury/traumatic-brain-injury

WA 211 participated in the Harvest of Hope Food Drive at Kennewick High School on November 22.

Our team set up a table and spent the day connecting with the community, helping local families access vital resources. Together, we’re working to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

This is what true teamwork and community spirit look like—and we’re proud to be part of it. by @211washington

Don't be foolish—protect yourself and those you love by following these simple guidelines:

¡ Protect your head. Wear a helmet during activities such as biking or skateboarding.

· Wear your seatbelt and don’t drive impaired. Car accidents are a leading cause of TBI, especially for teens.

¡ Prevent falls. Falls are a leading cause of TBI for older adults. Keep your home safe from tripping hazards and check with your doctor to evaluate your fall risk.

¡ Keep kids safe. Safety at home can mean window guards or safety gates. Helmets and proper gear on the sporting field are essential.

Be smart, stay safe, call 211 for resources, and learn more at https://www.dshs.wa.gov/altsa/traumatic-brain-injury/traumatic-brain-injury.

Washington has a variety of free, virtual TBI support groups, including:
-Living with a TBI
-Veterans TBI Support
-Accident TBI Support
-Family & Friends Support groups, and more.

Call 211 to find out more or visit heypeers.com/organizations/88.

As we age, understanding tax benefits and special provisions can help maximize financial well-being. While most federal income tax laws apply equally to all taxpayers, older adults may qualify for additional deductions, credits, and exclusions. These can include a higher standard deduction, potential exemptions from early withdrawal penalties, and specific tax credits for seniors.

If you need help navigating tax resources or finding local assistance, dial 211 to connect with trained specialists who can provide guidance on tax preparation services, financial assistance, and other essential resources.

The @irsnews is also there to help you learn more about tax benefits for older adults: www.irs.gov/pub554
