About Olive Lewin

I began my photography journey during lockdown. I would take images of flowers in the garden on my iPhone, and circulate them daily to friends and family. I would title the photographs “in the garden today”. Once lockdown was over I stopped sending photographs only to be met with abusive texts asking “where’s my daily flower?” I went back to photographing flowers on my daily walks, sometimes walking up garden paths to take a photograph of an eye catching bloom.

Approximately 18 months later I bought my first proper camera. I haven’t looked back since. I juggled photography workshops and courses with my demanding job in law, but it has got right under my skin.

The pictures I have chosen for this exhibition celebrates the marketplace where you can find an eclectic and vibrant community. Markets often have a mellow vibe, as evidenced here, with each stall offering a differing array of items for sale. Integrated with that is haggling, laughter, food, background music, and there’s usually a riot of colour. Long lost friends are occasionally rediscovered, and sometimes new friends made.

These pictures capture only a minute part of the hubbub going on, but hopefully encapsulate the joy of being a part of something much bigger.

Aisling’s lashes were made from recycling old @levislondon jeans!!. Cut, shaped, and placed one by one to create a denim false lash then applied on top and bottom. Skin stayed fresh and light with @evolvebeautyuk. Eyes were built out using @kryolanofficial Supracolor and cream textures for that painterly finish. Lips softened with @hourglasscosmetics Unlocked Lipstick in “I Am.”
