“Not just a festival, it’s an emotion 💫 Shubho Nobo Borsho” #fypppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp #relatable #newyear #kolkata #explorepage

Pohela Boishakh, also known as Nobo Borsho, is the Bengali New Year and one of the most vibrant and culturally rich festivals celebrated by Bengali people across West Bengal and Bangladesh. Observed every year on 14th April, it marks the first day of the Bengali calendar month “Boishakh” and symbolizes a fresh beginning filled with hope, positivity, and new opportunities. The festival has deep historical roots connected to the agricultural cycle, as it was traditionally the time when farmers would start a new harvest year and settle old accounts. Over time, it has evolved into a grand cultural celebration that brings people together beyond religion and social boundaries.

On this special day, people wake up early, clean and decorate their homes, and wear traditional outfits—men usually wear panjabi (kurta), while women dress in beautiful white sarees with red borders, symbolizing purity and joy. The day begins with cultural programs, songs like “Esho Hey Boishakh,” and community gatherings that reflect Bengali heritage and pride. Delicious traditional foods are an essential part of the celebration, especially dishes like panta bhat (fermented rice), ilish mach (hilsa fish), and a variety of sweets such as rasgulla and sandesh. Markets and streets come alive with fairs (melas), music, dance performances, and colorful decorations, creating a festive atmosphere everywhere.

Another important tradition of Nobo Borsho is “Haal Khata,” where businessmen and shopkeepers open new account books and invite customers to start the year with good wishes and sweets, symbolizing prosperity and trust. The essence of the festival lies in leaving behind past worries and starting anew with happiness and positivity. It is not just a celebration of a new year but also a reflection of Bengali identity, unity, and cultural richness, making Pohela Boishakh a truly special and meaningful occasion for millions of people. taken in Delhi, India by @24_d.e.v

The ₹7 ferry ride in Kolkata is one of the cheapest and most iconic public transport experiences in India, operated by West Bengal Transport Corporation across the Hooghly River. This river transport system dates back to the British colonial era, when ferries were introduced as a practical way to connect Kolkata with Howrah for daily commuters, long before modern bridges were built. Even today, routes like Babu Ghat to Howrah Ghat remain extremely popular, with fares starting as low as ₹7, making it one of the most affordable rides in the country. The journey usually takes about 10–15 minutes, with ferries running every 15–30 minutes depending on the time of day. Beyond being just transport, it offers stunning views of the iconic Howrah Bridge, especially during sunrise and sunset, which is why it’s loved by both locals and tourists for quick travel, photography, and creating aesthetic reels or vlogs.
