GUITAR PERFORMANCE (at least 10 people) ✅ (12/25)

This was probably the 25b425 that scared me the most. In January, I starting picking up the guitar, and gave myself a goal of performing when the time was right.

In a positive psychology class, we discussed 12 common characteristics among the happiest people. Number 9 really stands out to me: “they’ve given themselves permission to be human. Mistakes and weaknesses are seen as learning experiences and opportunities for growth; not a cause for embarrassment or worry”.

This guitar performance was a way that I could give myself permission to be human. I knew it would impossible to perfect my songs or measure up to any musician, but I didn’t really care. Luckily the sunset and speaker placement distracted my audience from my mess ups.

I’m really happy that I went out of my comfort zone and learned a new skill. If you ever have a guitar lying around, I’ll make you listen to me play “save your tears” by The Weeknd against your will 😂 by @25b425

MOVE TO A DIFFERENT STATE ✅ (11/25)

Honestly, moving has been pretty hard for be, both logistically and emotionally. Over the past few weeks I’ve felt nostalgic, scared, and alone but also super excited.

I think one of the most painful things about the move is to stop living less than an hour away from all my family and closest friends. I think it made me reevaluate how lucky I am to have such amazing people in my life.

As for my first day in SF? Well, it exceeded my expectations. It’s freaking BEAUTIFUL! I know this is where I need to be and that this change will be a good thing for me.

Here’s some happy things about our new apartment:
- it is across the street from a grocery store and a bus stop
- it is a safe area and I feel 100% comfortable walking around
- we finally have a DISHWASHER
- our street is flat (rarer than you think) by @25b425

GO TO A CONCERT ✅ (10/25)

Two weeks ago we went to see Bakar, Young the Giant and Cage the Elephant in concert. Our seats were deep in the top right corner, but we had an amazing time!!!

I especially loved the energy the lead singer of YTG brought, that guy is legendary! by @25b425

CATCH, GUT & COOK A FISH ✅ (9/25)

This one is pretty self explanatory, but I’ve had a lot of fun fishing lately so I finally decided to up my game a little bit and gut/cook a fish I caught!

Though they don’t have ovens in the wild, at least I know that I could (maybe) survive (a day)! by @25b425

GO TO THE CHIROPRACTOR ✅ (8/25)

For some reason, I’ve always wanted to go to a chiropractor.

The new patient special provided an adjustment, x-rays, a massage and a report…all for UNDER $30.

Luckily I had no major issues, but it was really interesting to see how my spine looked and to hear my bones snap, crackle and pop by a super buff guy haha.

That’s all. by @25b425

HIKE RIM TO RIM OF THE GRAND CANYON ✅ (7/25)

The rim to rim hike was EPIC.

Our group of 5 (me, my dad, brother and 2 cousins) started the hike from the South Rim at 4am, and finished at the North Rim at 6pm.

A 24-mile hike in one day was the most we’d all ever done, but we CONQUERED it. The last 4-5ish miles of uphill was brutal, but we pushed through. I ate the most amazing meatball sub and Mountain Dew after 🤣

I never realized how insanely beautiful the Grand Canyon was. We saw the sunrise, hiked across the Colorado River and through some sketchy cliffs.

I am so grateful for nature, my physical health and my perseverance that allowed me to finish! I didn’t think I had it in me!! by @25b425

GRADUATE COLLEGE ✅ (6/25)

I’ve always told myself that school just isn’t my thing. In my first college class I got a C-. In other classes I have scored in the 40 and 50%s on exams, even when I ACTUALLY TRIED. I just figured I wasn’t all that smart.

I never realized how damaging these thoughts were. I really started to believe them and this limited my potential.

Little by little, I challenged these beliefs. I set goals, found study methods that worked for me and worked hard.

This is why graduation was an awesome moment for me. I sure didn’t graduate near the top of my class, but I was proud of what I had accomplished. I finally feel capable of being smart.

Self-limiting beliefs. We all have them. They come from an evil part of the brain. Often they are fake, destructive and unhealthy. GET RID OF THEM!! :) by @25b425

GO SURFING FOR THE FIRST TIME ✅ (5/25)

Now this was a carpe.

On the last day of our vacation, we had an open morning. We decided to look into a surfing lesson since it was an easy place to learn and fairly cheap. We booked the lesson the day before, got up at 6:30 and drove 50 minutes to get there.

Surfing was way better than I expected. The water wasn’t freezing, I got up multiple times and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.

Part of me would’ve enjoyed sleeping in and not frantically packing before our flight, but I’m glad I listened to “adventure me” and tried something new. I hope to do that more often!!! 🏄‍♂️ by @25b425

GO TO THE TULIP FESTIVAL ✅ (4/25)

Bigger than all of these goals is the goal to do all I can to make my wife Eva happy.

We have never been to the tulip festival & Eva loves all things nature so I decided to take her in April. As for me, I loved the koi fish the best.

HAPPY SPOUSE, HAPPY HOUSE!!! 🌷❤️ by @25b425

SKI DOWN A BLACK DIAMOND ✅ (3/25)

This picture is ironic. In February, four of my friends invited me to ski with them for free. As we were talking on the drive up, I quickly realized that I’d be the worst one in our group by a mile.

After a couple blue runs, the group decided to go down the black diamond way. I was pretty nervous, but determined not to hold the group back.

At the top of the mountain, I snapped this stupid picture and saw each of my friends send it down the super steep face. I did the little ski shuffle to the edge of the run…looked down…and totally WIMPED OUT.

I went down the blue square way, which caused our group to end the run in different places. My group now had to backtrack, so they told me to do the same run again.

I was all alone on the lift up, and I felt like a fool. I knew I had inconvenienced my friends and felt ashamed that I gave into my fears. That’s when I saw it. A black diamond run called “no excuses”. I knew I had to conquer it.

As for the rest of the story, I went down no excuses (not without wiping out multiple times) and eventually met back up with my friends.

I have a love/hate relationship with this part of my brain. When I listen to it, I’m in control, comfortable and safe. But at the same time, I am missing out on some serious growth, confidence and opportunities.

I think it is healthy to do things that scare us. It is one of the best feelings in the world to do accomplish something that our irrational part of the brain told us we could never do! by @25b425

GET FIRST AID/CPR/AED CERTIFIED ✅ (2/25)

In a random day in August 2020 after being outside, I started to feel allergenic. It started as it usually does…sniffy nose, itchy eyes, sneezing…until my face started to puff up and it felt hard to breathe.

When my Mom saw me like this, she told me that we needed to go to urgent care immediately. I was reluctant and even argued with her over whether we should go or not. Eventually, she won and we started heading toward Intermountain Healthcare.

When we arrived, the front desk lady looked at me and FREAKED OUT. She immediately took me to the back and three or four nurses rushed to my aid. By this time, I remember feeling super out of it. One of the nurses screamed at me to pull down part of my pants so she could stab me with an epipen (which I thought was really weird in the moment) and dug the needle into my right buttcheek.

As for the rest of the story, the epinephrine felt great. I was rushed to the hospital, my condition stabilized and I was able to return home without any damage. I found out I had experienced something called “anaphylaxis”. The urgent care nurses told me how dangerously low my oxygen levels were and that I was literal minutes away from death. Even after meeting with an allergist, I still have no idea what caused that crazy reaction.

Looking back, this experience freaked me out way more than I let on. My main takeaway was gratitude for healthcare and for people who knew how to act in emergency situations. I decided that I wanted to be one of those people.

This is why I decided to get first aid/CPR/AED certified. My class was way better than I expected and I learned a ton!!!

Emergencies and freak accidents are uncommon, but not as uncommon as you think. by @25b425

JUGGLE A SOCCER BALL 100X IN A ROW ✅ (1/25)

When I was 9 and I asked my Dad what it would take to be the youngest pro soccer player ever. He told me I could start by juggling up to 100.

As hard as I tried from then on, the highest I could ever get was like 25. My unrealistic childhood dreams were crushed :/

BUT NOT ANYMORE!!! TODAY WE CONQUER!!! THIS IS FOR YOU YOUNGER SELF!!!

Getting to 100 juggles in a row had to have taken me at least 500 times over the past few weeks (I have a dead grass patch in my front lawn to prove it 🤣). I really thought I’d hate doing this, but I actually found it super fun & therapeutic to juggle everyday. by @25b425
