THE ROAD TO TWO BELTS — AND THEN SOME.

This collection tells a story.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be opening the 275UFC vault and sharing Islam Makhachev’s career through the cards I’ve collected along the way.

We’ll move chronologically—from his initial steps represented in my collection, through his rise to UFC Lightweight Champion, his championship reign, his climb to #1 pound-for-pound, and ultimately his historic journey to becoming champion in two divisions.

One week. One chapter. One rainbow.

Each rainbow represents a different chapter in Islam’s career. Along the way, I’ll also share some of the collection’s rarest and most significant pieces—1/1s, autographs, relics, low-pop cards and more.

And on Sundays, we’ll take a break from the timeline.

Casual Sundays.

No chronology. No rules. Just something interesting, unexpected or fun from the collection.

The two belts may be the destination we’ve reached…

but the story isn’t finished.

Welcome to The Road to Two Belts — and then some.

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

PART IV — THE PLAN FULFILLED

On October 22, 2022, Islam Makhachev didn't simply defeat Charles Oliveira.

He submitted him.

A right hand sent Oliveira down. Islam followed him to the ground and secured the arm-triangle.

Round 2. 3:16.

Charles Oliveira's 11-fight winning streak was over.

Islam Makhachev's win streak became 11.

And the UFC lightweight championship returned to the team that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov had spent years building.

Khabib had carried the belt.
Now Islam carried it.

Father's Plan has become a reality.

But Islam Makhachev's story as champion was only beginning.

Watch this 1/1 being pulled by @tmc_kev!

Kevin is one of the biggest UFC breakers out there and has pulled some incredible UFC 1/1s over the years. Pretty cool knowing this one eventually found its way into my PC.

Glad to be its current caretaker. Thank you, @tmc_kev! 🙏

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

2023 Panini Select Octagonside Cracked Ice - /8

PART III — THE TEST
Charles Oliveira wasn't simply a former champion standing in Islam's way.

He was arguably the most dangerous opponent Islam had ever faced.

Oliveira had finished Chandler.
Submitted Poirier.
Submitted Gaethje.

And now the UFC's all-time submission leader would meet one of the most dominant grapplers in the division.

For years, people wondered what would happen when Islam finally faced the very top of lightweight.

At UFC 280, there would be nowhere left for that question to hide.

11 straight vs. 10 straight.

And only one would leave Abu Dhabi as champion.

2023 Panini Select Octagonside Disco Green - /5

PART II — FATHER'S PLAN

Khabib had already completed his part.

Now, inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Islam stood one victory away from completing his.

But waiting across the Octagon was a man who hadn't lost in 11 fights.

Father's Plan had reached its final test.

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

2023 Panini Select Octagonside Disco Gold - /10

PART II — FATHER'S PLAN
Long before Islam reached UFC 280, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov saw something others couldn't yet see.

The vision was bigger than one champion.

Khabib would reach the top.

And when Khabib's chapter ended, Islam would be the one to continue it.

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

2023 Panini Select Octagonside Tie Dye - /25

CARD TALK
If Islam Makhachev’s rookie card carries his most important action shot because it marks the beginning of his collecting story, then, to me, this 2023 Panini Select Octagonside carries his most historically significant.

It captures Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira together inside the Octagon at UFC 280 in the middle of the title fight that changed Islam’s career forever.

That context makes the image special. Oliveira was the opponent standing between Islam and his first UFC championship.

And this card carries another distinction: the first card use of this UFC 280 image.

For me, that combination gives this action shot its historical weight. It doesn’t simply commemorate the night he became champion. It captures the fight that made him champion.

The rookie marks the beginning. This marks the first crown.

Two fighters. One title. One defining image.

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

2023 Panini Select Octagonside Disco Blue - /49

PART I — TWO STREAKS. ONE BELT.
By UFC 280, the lightweight division had arrived at a collision course.

Charles Oliveira entered on an incredible 11-fight winning streak, a run that included Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.

Across from him stood Islam Makhachev.

10 straight victories.

Two of the longest winning streaks in the division. Two fighters at the height of their powers. One vacant lightweight championship.

But for Islam, this wasn't simply about winning a belt.

It was about finishing something that had been planned years before.

Father's Plan had brought him here.

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

UFC Panini Poster Card - Poster version /80

UFC 280 — The Fight Poster
The second Panini Instant release took a different approach.

Instead of reimagining UFC 280 through an artist, Panini scaled down the UFC Fight Poster into card form — Oliveira and Makhachev face-to-face at the top, just as they appeared in the event's promotional artwork.

And this version was considerably scarcer.

Artist Series Poster card — /229
UFC Fight Poster card — /80

Two cards. Two interpretations of the same event.

Together, they preserve the night Islam Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira and became UFC Lightweight Champion.

One event. Two poster cards. One defining moment in the chronology.

Chapter 7 — The First Crown

UFC 280 Panini Instant Poster Card (Artist Series) - /229

THE ARTIST SERIES
For UFC 280, Panini Instant captured the event in two different ways.

The first was the Artist Series Poster card, illustrated by @bartlettstudio, who did an incredible job capturing the scale and energy of UFC 280. Panini limited the release to just 229 copies.

At the center stands Islam Makhachev, surrounded by the fighters who shared one of the biggest cards of 2022.

But this wasn't the only way Panini preserved UFC 280.

The second version would look much more familiar…

Happy Casual Sundays 😎

2025 Topps Knockout UFC
Champions Autograph Relic Booklet - /10

This booklet features Islam Makhachev wearing the UFC’s inaugural gold gloves, introduced for championship bouts. At UFC 302, Islam and Dustin Poirier became the first pair to compete for a title in them, entering a scheduled five-round battle that Islam ended with a fifth-round submission.

His second Champions Autograph Relic Booklet brings together his signature, fighter-worn memorabilia, and an image with another layer of historical significance.

Limited to just 10 booklets, it captures a chapter when championship gold was worn on his shoulder and on his hands.

Chapter 6 — You Can't Deny Me Now

UFC 267 presented another question.

How would #5-ranked Islam Makhachev handle the length, size and experience of #6 Dan Hooker?

The answer came in just 2:25 of the first round.

Nine straight victories.

Another top contender defeated.

And another step closer to the goal that had been envisioned years before.

Islam's actual journey would continue next against Bobby Green.

But our collection takes a different path.

The next opponent we will chronicle is...

Charles Oliveira.

Two incredible winning streaks.
One vacant lightweight championship.
UFC 280.

Job's not finished.
