Masters! Mutants! Monsters! Madmen!

I needed a solution for all of the Keshi figures I had in baggies and boxes throughout my apartment. Something that would allow me to enjoy them, but wouldn’t require me to dust them all the time. I decided on a fillable lamp since it would have a function beyond just showcasing the figures and I’m really happy with how it turned out. Of course, I can’t see every figure, but since I had multiple colors of most of the characters, I did my best to make sure at least one of each unique sculpt was present somewhere along the perimeter. And there’s still a little bit of room if I end up adding more to my collection in the future.

I picked up a couple more Puppet Master variants I was missing at a horror flea market a couple weekends ago, so I figured it was a perfect opportunity to update my display. The movie series has more misses than hits, but I love the original puppet designs. As a kid constantly renting Full Moon’s movies, I would have given anything to get my hands on a set of puppets of my own. This figure series, along with Star Wars: POTF2, kicked off my adult collecting while I was in college over 20 years ago. #puppetmaster #blade #pinhead #tunneler #jester #leechwoman #torch #sixshooter #totem #mephisto #decapitron #subspecies #radu #demonictoys #jackattack #fullmoon #fullmoontoys #phantasmacollectibles #horrorfigures #actionfigurecollecting by @2much2collect

I know I just posted about these Pop Mart Chucky blind boxes, but I’ve been stalking Target hoping to find the Super7 Godzilla Fun! Fun! blind boxes and every time I went and didn’t find them, I felt like I needed to buy something else so it wasn’t a wasted trip. Well, as you can probably tell from the first pic above, not to mention the fact that I’m not posting pics of a bunch of Godzilla mini figures, I’ve had several unsuccessful Target trips in the last week. The upside to this is I now have a complete base set of these Chucky figures. As I mentioned in my previous post, there are nine figures with a 1/9 rarity, but there is a secret tenth figure that has a 1/108 rarity. I checked for it on eBay just to see what it looks like, and it’s the least interesting one in the series, so if they had to pick one to limit to just one in twelve cases, they chose wisely. I’m including a pic in the last slide if you’re curious.

With seven movies and three seasons of a TV series, there is a lot of content to draw from when it comes to Chucky. These figures draw inspiration from the theatrically released films in the series, so the OG Child’s Play through Seed of Chucky. There’s even one based on a popular promotional image from Child’s Play 3 of Chucky sitting in a director’s chair with a cigar and removable magnetic sunglasses. The figures have a lot of nice little details, like Charles Lee Ray’s name and date of death on the tombstone of “Graveyard Chucky”, or the working wheels on “Stroller Chucky.” “Show Time Chucky”, “Stroller Chucky” and Tiffany are the standouts for me. There’s still plenty of moments to be mined if they ever decide to do a second series. by @2much2collect

I feel like my Chucky collection has been neglected in favor of other things lately. There’s a steady stream of Chucky product coming out and my shelves are already overflowing. But here are a few recent pickups. The coffin shaped box is a 500 piece puzzle I found at Home Goods. I’m not sure if the actual puzzle is coffin shaped or not as I haven’t made time to put it together yet. The mini figures are Pop Mart blind boxes. They’re hitting Target’s new collectibles section now. There are ten in the series, nine of which you have a 1/9 chance of pulling. The tenth is a mystery figure and it has a rarity of 1/108, so I doubt I’ll ever own that one. The three I pulled are called Chucky and Andy, Good Guy Doll, and Delivery Box Chucky. The Good Guy Doll box requires some sticker application. The doll is removable from the plastic box, I just forgot to take a picture of it separately. Pop Mart does some really impressive stuff. Their Universal Monsters from a couple years ago are super cool, and I have a set of Ultraman Kaiju they made that are adorable. by @2much2collect

Fall book haul! I haven’t done a book post in a while, mainly because I haven’t found much worth posting. I’m visiting family and I had some time to kill while waiting to pick up dinner recently, so I popped into the used bookstore. Their selection can be hit or miss, but I know that they go to book sales and garage sales to look for their inventory, so it’s always worth checking. On this visit I was treated to a nice horror selection, much more than just the usual V.C. Andrews, King and Koontz that tends to make up 90% of their offerings. The top two rows are books I picked up from that shop. The two books on the bottom are from Barnes & Noble. I don’t know how many copies of Frankenstein I have now, but I grab them whenever I come across one with a cool cover and this one was pretty cheap. There’s a Phantom of the Opera in the same series and I’m thinking about going back for it. by @2much2collect

A seemingly endless barrage of repaints all but killed The Black Series 6” line of Star Wars figures for me. I went from buying most of the line’s output to maybe picking up two or three figures a year, mainly new OT aliens and bounty hunters. But then Hasbro started doing these Halloween Edition repaints, and they were finally speaking my language.

I believe this is the fourth year of this sub-line and it might be their best offering yet, as we’re treated to three Universal Monster inspired characters. Mon Calamari here is a Creature from the Black Lagoon inspired repaint of Admiral Ackbar. This was a must have from the second it was announced for a few reasons. If you’ve followed me for even a little while, you’re probably aware that I’m a big fan of the Gill Man. Admiral Ackbar also happens to have a special place in my heart. Aside from the fact that he’s a cool looking alien introduced in one of my favorite Star Wars movies, I got to have dinner with the man that puppeteered the character, Tim Rose! My friends and I met him at a Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, FL many years ago and he joined us for dinner. Tim also worked on several Muppet productions and he shared so many amazing and hilarious stories. I was already a fan of the character, but after breaking bread with the man that brought him to life, it’s hard not to buy every Ackbar action figure they release. Thankfully, they don’t put new ones out all that often.

I do plan to pick up the other two Halloween Edition releases for this year, but this one was my top priority. I’ll probably post all of the figures together if I can get them before Halloween. by @2much2collect

What do these three Godzilla figures have in common? I got them all on clearance! The Funko Pop! and Youtooz figures were both on a clearance table at Barnes & Noble, each having been marked down twice. I think Youtooz are some of the most overpriced collectibles on the market, but at a 1/4 of the price after markdowns and member discount, it felt like a great deal.

I’ve been waiting on the Super7 Super Kaiju Godzilla ‘04 to go on sale or clearance since it came out and it finally got discounted this week. I probably could have held out for the next markdown, but I love this line and this is the only one I was missing. At some point I’ll have to post a group shot of the entire collection so far. There were several of the Color Shock variant I was worried about being hard to find also sitting on clearance, so I guess I could have waited after all, but maybe I’ll grab another one to leave carded if they survive until the next markdown. by @2much2collect

I’ve always been a monster kid, and here’s proof! While going through a bunch of old report cards, honor roll certificates and other grade school ephemera, I came across this “award” from my third grade teacher. I was an average student, but apparently what I really excelled at was selecting which toys to sneak into my backpack to bring to school. Sure, she could have recognized me for all the Garfield drawings I made for her because I knew she was a big Garfield fan, but I feel seen. This was 1988, so The Real Ghostbusters was my obsession at the time. I distinctly recall bringing Granny Gross, Terror Trash and Tombstone Tackle to school (each on different occasions). I feel like these were likely what my teacher had in mind while writing this.

Here’s a pic of me around the same timeframe, playing with some of my Kenner Real Ghostbusters figures and rocking footie pajamas and bed head. by @2much2collect

Happy Saturday! I’ve had the @tls_toy My Pet Monster for a few weeks now, but now he has a buddy, My Football Monster! I honestly think they did a better job with him and I hope that they release Beastur next. An original My Pet Monster is still one of my most wanted collectibles, but if I’m going to get one, I’m doing it right and getting as minty a specimen as I can find. Having these guys, the early 2000s Toymax release and the Super7 reaction figures make the wait to add an OG to the collection a little more bearable. by @2much2collect

If you’re interested in collecting some or all of the Universal Monsters Tubbz Mystery Eggs but haven’t taken the plunge yet, here are a couple of tips. First, DO NOT buy them at Spirit Halloween! They’re $8.99 each there, but Five Below is carrying them too and they’re, you guessed it, only $5.00 each there. There are no codes on the packaging that can help you distinguish one character from another, but shaking the eggs may improve your odds if you’re only looking to pick up your favorite monster. If you shake an egg and don’t hear it rattle at all, it’s most likely the Bride of Frankenstein or possibly Frankenstein (I avoided the ones that didn’t rattle and I didn’t get either of those characters). All the other characters will rattle around to some degree, but the Creature seems to more than the others. If you haven’t seen these Mystery Eggs minis in person yet, they’re similar in size to the boxed Tubbz mini ducks. I picked up an Invisible Man duck at Five Below as well, so you can see how they scale with one another. by @2much2collect
