What an impactful evening of growth, reflection, and preparation for what’s next!

We were honored to host Part One of our Reentry Ready: Business & Personal Communication Workshop at our transitional home, formerly known as SCLPMI Grandma’s House.

This workshop created a safe, supportive space for the women we serve to explore how communication, confidence, and professional presence can open doors and help them maintain opportunities.

Most importantly, we were reminded that reentry is about more than returning to the community—it’s about being prepared to thrive in it.

A special thank you to Dr. Fay Boudreaux, an Instructor of Communications at Southeastern Louisiana University, for volunteering with SCLPMI to bring this important professional development experience to our residents and program participants. The workshop provides practical communication skills that support employment, education, entrepreneurship, and personal development.

And this is only Part One! 🙌🏾

We’re continuing the conversation and building on these skills because your voice matters, your story matters, and your future is worth preparing for.

What you see here is more than an on-site donation store. It is the result of a vision, years of conversations, planning, persistence, and believing that the women we serve deserve access to resources that make them feel valued, beautiful, confident, and cared for.

For the past couple of years, we have been working toward creating a space like this inside SCLPMI Grandma’s House—a place where the women in our transitional housing program can access essential beauty and personal-care items without having to choose between necessities.

Today, we are grateful to see that vision becoming a reality. 🥹💜

A SPECIAL and HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our cohort, Ms. Brigit, for taking the lead and helping bring this initiative to life. Your willingness to see the vision, put in the work, and help create something meaningful for the women we serve is deeply appreciated.

And to Dimensions Barber and Beauty Supply—THANK YOU! 🙏🏾💜 Your generous donation of beauty supplies is so much more than products. You donated confidence. You donated dignity. You donated hope.

For a woman rebuilding her life after incarceration, sometimes something as simple as having access to shampoo, hair products, skincare, or beauty supplies can be a reminder:

“I still matter. I am worthy of care. I deserve to feel good about myself. I am rebuilding my life—and I am not alone.”

This is why we do the work.

At SCLPMI, we believe reentry is about more than providing a roof. It is about restoring dignity, rebuilding confidence, creating opportunities, and reminding women that their past does not have to define their future.

Today, we celebrate a vision that took years to develop—but we also celebrate the people who refused to let that vision die.

💜 The store is open. The vision is alive. And the women we serve are worth every bit of it.

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. not just for his words, but also for his courage, sacrifice, and commitment to justice.

On this day, we can’t help but wonder: What would our ancestors think of our current political climate?

Would they be proud of how we use our voices, our votes, and our platforms?

Would they recognize unity in our actions—or fear in our divisions?

Our ancestors endured chains, laws designed to erase them, and systems meant to silence them, yet they still believed in a future they would never fully see. They marched so we could stand. They spoke so we could vote. They dreamed so we could lead.

Dr. King reminded us that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” But it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we do the work.

Today is not just about remembrance.
It’s about responsibility.

To lead with integrity.

To choose truth over comfort.

To protect human dignity, even when it’s inconvenient.

May we live in a way that honors the sacrifices made before us—and leaves a legacy worth inheriting after us.
