Rainbow Mountain was one of the most anticipated stops on our Peru trip 🇵🇪

And honestly… it was a bit underwhelming compared to what we expected from photos online. A lot of the images you see are heavily edited to make the colors look much more vibrant than they appear in person.

That said, the experience itself was still unique, especially at over 17,000 feet above sea level, where the altitude is no joke.

If you’re planning a trip to Cusco or building your Peru itinerary, here are the most important things to know before visiting Rainbow Mountain from altitude and timing to crowds, time limits, and what to expect on the ground.

We chose the Rainbow Mountain ATV tour and thought it was worth it. It made the experience much more manageable and took away a big portion of the difficult hiking at high altitude.

🎥 We also shared our full Rainbow Mountain experience on YouTube, including what the ATV tour and final climb were really like.

The tour link is in our bio if you’re planning your own trip ✈️

Have you been to Rainbow Mountain… or is it still on your list? 👇

Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur hits HARD. And we barely scratched the surface. 👀

Murals tucked down side streets, noodles worth hunting down, a bustling street market, and speakeasies hiding behind unassuming doors. We came for a wander and ended up finding a little bit of everything.

Here’s where we went:
🍜 Lunch at meetarik for hand-pulled noodles
🛍️ Explored Petaling Street Market
🚶‍♀️ Wandered along Lorong Petaling
🎨 Discovering street art and murals around Chinatown
🍸 Drinks at @ps150kl, a hidden speakeasy
🥃 One more stop at @thehideoutkl for late snacks drinks, and live music

We’re Amy and Rodney, two former educators who left our careers to travel full-time. Now we’re exploring the world one neighborhood at a time, chasing good food, local culture, and places that make us curious.

Planning a trip to Kuala Lumpur? Save this for your Chinatown wander, and give yourself time to explore beyond the main street.

Follow @2stylesoftravel for more neighborhood finds, food adventures, and travel tips from our journey around the world.

We almost walked right past this in Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur… 👀

We spotted an arrow on the ground, followed it up to the wall, and realized the artwork lines up perfectly with Merdeka 118 (the 2nd tallest building in the world)! It’s such a clever little detail and exactly the sort of thing you can miss when you’re rushing around to see the main sights.

After a stopover in Abu Dhabi, we’re finally settled in KL and ready to explore! We’re kicking off 6 months of traveling through Southeast Asia and we can’t wait to see what we discover along the way.

If you’re new here, we’re Amy & Rodney, former teachers who left our careers to travel full-time. We love exploring neighborhoods, trying local food, learning about different cultures, and finding the little things that make a place special.

We had 24 hours in Abu Dhabi before starting six months of travel through Southeast Asia. Here’s how we spent them.

We started with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, taking in the incredible architecture and details. Then we traded the city for the desert, with dune bashing, sandboarding, a camel ride, dinner, and a show as the sun went down.

Two very different experiences, all in one short stop.

We flew with @etihad and their Abu Dhabi stopover program is worth looking into if you have a connecting flight. Eligible travelers can get up to two nights in selected hotels, subject to the program’s terms and availability.

One thing we’re learning from traveling full-time is that getting somewhere doesn’t always have to mean going straight to your final destination. Sometimes, a stop along the way becomes part of the adventure.

We’re curious: when you book a long-haul flight, do you prefer to get straight to your destination, or would you add a day or two somewhere new?

Tell us below. We love hearing how other people travel.

We’re kicking off 6 months of traveling through Southeast Asia, and our first stop was Abu Dhabi! ✈️

We broke up our journey with an Etihad Airways @etihad stopover, a program that lets eligible travelers enjoy up to 2 nights of complimentary hotel accommodation while exploring Abu Dhabi or Al Ain.

We spent the day visiting the incredible Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, taking in its stunning white marble architecture and intricate details. Then, we traded the city for the desert.

Our evening desert safari with @abdul__safari_abudhabi took us dune bashing across the sand, trying sandboarding, watching the sunset, and ending the night with dinner and live entertainment under the stars.

Now, we’re off to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to begin the next chapter of this adventure!

Follow @2stylesoftravel for our travel itineraries, practical travel tips, and real-life updates as we explore Southeast Asia.

Save this for your next trip through Abu Dhabi!

Planning to visit the Colosseum in Rome? Save this before you book.

These are five things we think are actually useful to know before visiting, especially if you want to see more than just the Colosseum itself. #visitrome

Don’t plan on simply showing up and buying a ticket when you get there.

Colosseum entry requires a reserved time slot and official ticket sales open 30 days before the visit date.

Your reservation is for a specific entry time, so pay attention when you’re choosing your ticket.

We recommend booking through the official Colosseum website rather than waiting until you’re in Rome.

There are several different Colosseum ticket options and they don’t all give you access to the same areas.

The standard Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket includes the first and second levels of the Colosseum, but not the arena or underground.

And here’s another thing to know: your time inside the Colosseum is limited.

The standard ticket allows 75 minutes inside, while some Full Experience options allow 90 minutes.

So before you buy, decide what you actually want to see and choose your ticket accordingly.

Before paying for an audio guide, check out the official MyColosseum app.

It includes free interactive audio guides in English and Italian and is designed to follow the visitor route through the Colosseum.

Download it before you arrive so you aren’t trying to figure it out once you’re inside.

Colosseum tickets are nominative, which means they’re issued in the name of the person visiting.

When you arrive, the name on your ticket is checked against your identification.

You don’t need to bring the exact ID you used when purchasing the ticket. You just need valid identification showing the full name listed on your ticket.

It’s a small detail, but definitely something you want to know before you arrive at the entrance.

This is one of the things we found really useful when planning our visit.

With the standard ticket, your Colosseum entry is timed, but you don’t have to visit the Roman Forum and Palatine at that exact same time.

You can visit the archaeological area within 24 hours before or after your Colosseum reservation.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones you never planned. 🇧🇿

After a storm left us stuck in Roatán, we were trying to figure out how to get home earlier when we decided to make an unexpected pit stop in San Pedro, Belize for a few days.

We had no real plans, but somehow those trips always end up being the most fun.

In this travel guide, we’re sharing what we did with our time in San Pedro, including Secret Beach, where we ate, what we loved, and what we think you should know before visiting Belize.

If you’re planning a trip to San Pedro, Belize, save this one for later!

🎥 And if you want to see what our unexpected Belize trip was actually like, watch our full Belize travel video on YouTube.

Have you ever taken an unplanned trip that ended up being one of your favorites?

Unpopular opinion: you don’t need 3 days to see the Uyuni Salt Flats. 🇧🇴

We chose to do a one-day tour instead of the typical 3-day route, and for us, it was the right choice.

We got to see the train cemetery, the Dakar sign, the salt flats, Incahuasi Island, and ended the day with snacks, wine, and sunset before heading back to Uyuni.

It was a long day, but we felt like we got to experience the highlights without spending three days on the road.

Would you choose the one-day tour or the 3-day experience?

We linked the exact tour we did in our bio, and we also have a video of the full experience on YouTube.

We came to Mendoza for the wine, but 48 hours at an estancia ended up being one of our favorite parts of our time in Argentina. 🇦🇷

We stayed at an estancia just outside Mendoza and spent our days doing exactly what we came here to do: riding horses, hiking through the mountains, eating Argentine asado, and drinking very good Mendoza wine. 🍷

There was something really special about waking up with the mountains around us, spending the morning on horseback, sitting down to a long asado, and having nowhere we needed to be.

If you’re planning a trip to Mendoza, Argentina, we’d seriously consider adding an estancia stay to your itinerary. It’s a completely different experience from spending your days visiting wineries.

We filmed our entire estancia experience too, including where we stayed, what we ate, and everything we did. You can find the full video on 2 Styles of Travel on YouTube. 🎥

Would you trade a few nights at the wineries for an estancia in Mendoza? 👇

📌 Save this for your Mendoza itinerary.

It’s funny how some of your favorite travel memories aren’t the ones you plan...

They’re the random sunsets, the unexpected views, and the little moments in between.

Roatán gave us a lot of those.

Here’s a glimpse of one of our favorite trips. ❤️
