I remember the first time I saw this 4Runner. I was home from college for winter break, visiting my parents. It sat in the garage under flickering fluorescent lights. At the time, I had no idea how much it would come to mean to my family, or how it would shape my life.

My dad had just bought it from the local Toyota dealership. I was glad he was finally upgrading to something a little more rugged. The rain was pouring outside and I could hear the water drops slap the concrete driveway. I remember thinking how simple and yet how cool it looked.

Fast forward two decades, and the 4Runner is mine now. My dad is gone. And sometimes, at night, when I’m alone in the garage looking at it, I feel like a college kid again. Like he’s still here. Like we still have a lifetime together.

I think I am almost done with my current build phase on the Land Cruiser, which was lights and storage: I got some custom drawers made and installed by @hr_woodworkss, that was a major improvement in my storage game. And with my @diodedynamics SS3 pros and SS2 sports built into my front bumper by @kpoffroad, I can see pretty good at night. The final light upgrade is to replace my headlights with an upgrade from @lightwerkz or similar company.
I wasn’t really planning on upgrading my suspension anytime soon but I was driving around town the other day and I was getting motion sick from how harsh my ride quality is. So I might need to address that sooner rather than later. I heard good things about Dobinsons and Radflo shocks. Any others I should consider?

Big thank you to @offroad_platoon for leading an epic night run a few weeks ago. Got to meet a bunch of people I knew from Instagram in real life! The trail went from Rattlesnake Canyon and connected to Burns Canyon. We got to camp near Big Bear and capped it off with a final trail before heading home. I have to say after seeing @mikeyb_4r, @foxrnnr, and @flako3g4r and their built 3rd Gen 4Runners, I am freshly motivated to restart my 3rd gen build and go wheeling with it.

My favorite memory from our camping trip was sitting by the fire with my kids on my lap. As the sun set and the air grew colder, we hugged each other for warmth and took turns telling corny jokes. In that moment, time seemed to freeze—I forgot about work, stress, and all the things in the news. It was just us, the fire’s glow, laughter, and a few slightly burnt s’mores.
