'Robin Hood: The Arts of Occupation'

Ikram Chowdhury, Editor, Writer, Poet
Victoria & Albert Museum, East Storehouse

Robin Hood Gardens — the now-demolished housing estate in Poplar, East London, once home to my grandparents — lives on through its preserved three-storey facade, with a new exhibition at the V&A East Storehouse.

Read my foreword, and my poetry ('A Gest Of Robyn Hode Gardyns', 'The Nanu Show', 'Lustre', and 'Green Fingers'), alongside stories, artworks, photos, interviews, recipes, and reflections woven by our co-production collective, in 'Robin Hood: The Arts of Occupation' — the publication now available to view at the Storehouse.

Watch our short film: 'Robin Hood: Past the Concrete', featuring my poem 'Green Fingers', as well as other spoken word pieces, oral histories, and artworks — all rooted in the beauty behind the brutalism.

Ben and Afia; Nate and Jamel; our team and co-production collective; the Robin Hood Gardens community — these are our arts of occupation.

They could never really rob the hood. taken in V&A East by @309yrs
