Not gonna lie, this mornings 1st Icon Laser treatment wasn't fun. Numbing was supposed to be on an hour beforehand not 20 minutes. I pushed through the pain b/c I knew it would help the healing process. I can see from this image, it's doing the job.
I have monthly sessions the rest of this year to encourage the collagen to reproduce and reduce the scaring and thickening below my eye (still no feeling in my face where the cancer was). It will take time to fully regenerate. The human body is an amazing gift! Here's hoping the numbness wears off before I have to talk @321freediveconference tonight 😎.

1 Month Post Op:
All but a few of the sutures below my eye are gone. The scars are beginning to settle. My central vision is back (peripheral is still limited). I have been able to enjoy the feeling of water on my face again and wash it carefully as I used to. I still am with limited sensation to the touch.

Sneezing and laughing is an event🙃.
I've worked hard on both the external skin care and nutrition to support rapid healing. I'll admit (like today) I still have to give in and take meds on occasion as the nerve and vessel rejuvenation pain can be overwhelming at times.

Going in public at 1st (mind you I did this at week 2), led me to cry because I was constantly met with unsolicited statements i.e. "omg, what happened to your face?" and awkward smiles etc. I'm usually one who initiates eye contact and smiles. Instead, I would go to a place of avoidance. Currently, I'm working on ownership and welcoming the questions. (still hard to look at myself sometimes)

My 1st CO2 Laser treatment for the scars is this next month along with the other tests to ensure no signs of cancer elsewhere.

I desperately want to get back in the water and hopefully can soon (at least the pool or a spring).
Diving will take baby steps.

*May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month and I've decided to do something special. Will share more soon.

Over the past 2 years, I have been (unfortunately) privy to 1st hand accounts of the "Ego" within the Sport of Freediving. More often than not, I've remained silent. It's saddened me that in order to keep focus on my peace and the Mission of 321FREEDIVE, I've had to distance myself from some of those who, at one time, were of great inspiration to me.
In this moment, I am angered by the current circumstances within the "Elite" level of our sport.
The larger community, i.e. those who embrace it beyond competition, are being let down.
The reality?....It's brutally difficult to gain facility access and support for Freediving when the stigmas of " Breathhold Sports" supersede any level of Risk Mitigation we present.

When the opportunity arises to see your Dad playing 1st Chair Piano for @broadwayinchicago as part of what has become a tradition for over 20+ years, you jump on a plane and go!
It was so nice to share this impromptu visit with my Mom and Dad. I felt like a tourist🤣 taking pictures of a city I used to call home. The nostalgia was indescribable.
The Concert?... To be literally surrounded by what was probably the largest attendance EVER of patrons all celebrating their love of Professional Musical Theater (a world I grew up in) ...it was "Awe"some. taken in Millennium Park by @321freedive
