A great section from a recent chat with @321gomd where he asked after my fall in 2018, when the stakes were very high, what kinds of fears creep into an athletes mind?

It’s a great thing to consider and get insight on that can help doctors and health care professionals deliver better care in recovery, or make better day of decisions with their athlete patients.

Full conversation coming soon!

I sat down recently and had a long informal chat with @321gomd . He’s been the lead ortho at most major CrossFit competitions as long as I’ve been competing and unfortunately he’s seen a lot of me over the years 😂.

Dr. Rockett is the one who cleared me to compete when I tore my bicep back in 2016. In some ways perhaps I owe him my career, and he’s happy to tell me 😉. He was also one of the first to reach out to help after tearing my Achilles a few weeks ago.

I’ve been both a provider and a patient/athlete over the years and I know first hand that sometimes athletes done make the best patients 😅.
We talked about the nuance and challenges of patient relationships and dealing with athletes, how to build trust, and shared some fun stories from over the years.

I had a blast revisiting some things and getting his perspective on dealing with us in competition now that I’m “out of the game”. I wasn’t sure if we’d post the whole conversation, we may later, but for now I’ll share a few pertinent clips over the next bit.
Dr. Rockett is great, but I hope you never have to meet him…😂

Watching a room full of athletes get quiet is how you know something matters.
That was the vibe during our Injury Prevention Seminar with Dr. Sean Rockett at Club 600. @321gomd
We are used to pushing. But the real win is staying in the game and being injury free.
Big thank you to Dr. Rockett for giving our community clarity on what actually prevents injuries:
* Stretch so your body can move the way your training demands.
* Use physical therapy before something becomes “a thing.”
* Train with intent: build capacity slowly, stack weeks, protect the long-term.
* Modify movements when needed: the goal is progress, not proving something on a random Tuesday.
If you are dealing with a nagging ache, you are not “broken.” You just need a better plan.
Thank you again, Dr. Rockett, for making this such a success and for taking the time to answer every question.
What is one movement you want help modifying right now? @321gomd @crossfit_600 @jane.mezh @movingforward_pt @stretch_concord #crossfit #injuryprevention #physicaltherapy #personaltraining by @321gomd

If you train consistently, you already know the real goal is not a perfect week of workouts. but staying healthy enough to keep training month after month.

That’s why we’re bringing in a guest you almost never get direct access to inside a fitness facility - Dr. Sean Rockett @321gomd - a highly respected orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, and he is coming to Club 600 for a live Injury Prevention Seminar + Q&A.

Dr. Rockett is a Boston orthopedic surgeon and longtime member of the CrossFit community with a rare understanding of athletes and active adults who want to keep training while also protecting their bodies.

He has worked extensively with CrossFit athletes and has served in an orthopedic medical role supporting CrossFit Games athletes - including being the CrossFit Games physician since 2012. He is also the author of “Where does it hurt.” @roguefitness

The Seminar is for any individual who wants to learn:

Why common training injuries happen and how to prevent them

How to tell the difference between normal soreness and pain you should not ignore

What to do when something starts hurting (before it becomes a real injury)

How to modify movements so you can continue training safely

Common shoulder, knee, hip, and back issues in active adults

When you can safely work through an issue vs. when it’s time to have it evaluated

Bring your questions, especially if you have an ache, pain, or recurring issue you’ve been unsure about. LINK TO REGISTER IS IN BIO #crossfit #injuryprevention #painfree #orthopedics #crossfitgames by @321gomd

Rest isn’t always the answer. Smart modification is.
I sat down with Dr. Sean Rockett, highly respected Boston orthopedic surgeon, Sports Medicine Specialists and CrossFit Games physician since 2012 and asked him a question most athletes dread:
“When do you tell your patients to rest or stop exercising?”
His answer: Never.
Not because you ignore injuries.
Because you can almost always keep training by shifting focus.
Shoulder bothering you?
You can still squat. You can still do core work. You can still train legs.
You can still build the engine while you rehab the part.
That one idea changes everything: don’t quit training. Change the plan.
If you want the complete system for staying strong while reducing injury risk, we’re covering it in our Injury Prevention Seminar.

If your knees hurt while running, here is a tip for you …😀

But seriously—if you want to keep training hard without constantly getting injured, come to our Injury Prevention Seminar on September 9th with Dr. Rockett, prominent Boston orthopedic surgeon and CrossFit Games physician. @321gomd @crossfit_600

He’ll break down:
• The most common training injuries—and what’s actually happening
• How to address the root cause instead of just “resting and hoping”
• How to keep training while injured without making things worse
• What “prehab” actually looks like if you want to stay consistent
If you want to train hard for a long time, prevention is a skill. #crossfit #injuryprevention #kneepain #painfree #orthopedics @stretch_concord @movingforward_pt by @321gomd
