LAST CALL!! To Susanne and John, test tiles were utilitarian. Part of the process to achieve their desired results. To us, however, these are perfect little tiny works of art in and of themselves and the reaction by collectors that have come out these last few weeks has been the same delight as ours.

Due to demand, we’ve decided to offer test tiles up as a gift to all who make a donation ranging from $25 up to $100 to The Legacy Project in the next two weeks. The tiles vary in shape and size and options will correlate to the donation amount made.

We hope you will consider making a donation to The Stephenson Ceramics Legacy Project. All donors will be listed in The catalogues as a supporter of this important project.

Our studio doors will be closing on October 17th.

It’s been a whirlwind at the studio these past few weeks as we continue to prepare all the work to be moved into hibernation. Despite the wistful feelings that come with the ending of a chapter, there have been so many pockets of continued unexpected joy and whimsy as we are
STILL uncovering magic in the studio.

Case in point: this large collection of test tiles. Ceramic artists use test tiles to experiment with glazes, clay bodies, and firing conditions to see how materials will react in the kiln before applying them to finished pieces. Test tiles help them compare color, texture, opacity, and surface quality, making it easier to refine a glaze recipe and predict the final result without risking an entire finished piece.
