𝔫𝔬𝔱𝔢𝔰 𝔣𝔯𝔬𝔪 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔠𝔲𝔱𝔱𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔯𝔬𝔬𝔪 𝔣𝔩𝔬𝔬𝔯✂️

I’ve been processing the end of my MFA era, which ended with quite a bang (those who know know 👁️). Part of the rigor I put myself through was a full embrace of design—as its own independent discipline and how I can use it as a tool in my capital—A—art—practice, and also in my recent foray into critical theory and philosophy. I thought I was just gonna paint but ended up going in so many different directions at the same at full speed…it was equally exhilarating and exhausting 🥲. Very thankful to the @ucberkeley_artpractice community for trusting me, a UCLA DMA crashout, with this platform + space for play—though it was intense I felt an exponential growth in my design sensibilities.

Also friends and friends of friends - I am currently on the job hunt …but it’s bleak, please keep me in mind for design gigs while I figure out the next chapter. Also I can’t wait to share a bit more about what I have down the pipeline as I slowly come out of sabbatical (studio sale 🐆 , thesis documentation 🪡 , and some writing projects I’ve been working on 🖊️)

Upon leaving undergrad 10 years ago, with barely any academic connections, and not the best grades I didn’t know how I was gonna get to this point—but I knew that I would, by any means necessary! It has been a sickening 2 years of growth as an artist, educator, student, designer, writer and overall quiva (queen + diva) !

Though, I’d be remiss if I didn’t go into how difficult these last two months have been…a lot of the conversations I was having about the work were difficult to process, and I was in a deep spiral for what seemed like an eternity. But by the end of it I really came around to digging what was happening. And also huuuuuge mfn shout out to @clitlally_ and @candy_ale23 —from your encouragement and LONG rhinestoning sessions to driving me around you all really helped me stick the landing. This work is as much yours as it is mine, I am forever in gratitude 🙏🏼

I BECKON YOU FROM THE PERIPHERY / MY RADIANCE DEMANDS FLUX, is a poetic statement from the perspective of a rhinestone as an allegory for queer and trans exuberance. It’s about the beauty that constant movement can produce / visually and politically. It’s about the dance floor, adornment, the queens, it’s also about protest and demanding change when it’s just not giving…most importantly it’s about and for my queer and trans siblings. 💎✨

Hæyyy I know it’s been awhile—just wanted to come on here and say: I INSTALLED MY MFN THESIS . 🐆🪡

Completing this work has been one of theee most harrowing and challenging experiences I have ever gone thru…all imma say for now is huge shout out to @clitlally_ @candy_ale23 @digitaldreambf for holding me down these past few months, in this moment of intensity you all really showed up and showed out 🌄

Countermyths opens May 13th, with a reception + artist talk May 15th. Excited to share the work me and my cohort mates have been working on‼️

Oh and also it’s Itzli Ociel now, but always and forever GG 😘

—----— 𝖱&𝖣 + 𝖯𝗋𝗈𝗍𝗈𝗍𝗒𝗉𝗂𝗇𝗀 —----

🪡Hellotis~~This is the culmination of my work this past spring @ucberkeley_artpractice…it’s still a #wip & having a hard time articulating, so below are some loose-ish notes 🐆 :

I. In 2018 when I was preparing a collage demo, I haphazardly composed the very first iteration of this work at voyages prep in jackson heights. My fixation on representations of the jaguar grew as I listened to @chuquimamani_condori’s compositions. Over the years I have collected multiple images of jaguars—from murals, memes, textiles whatever.

II. In this work I superficially read the semiotic history of the Jaguar in the western hemisphere—in the archeological record, Latin American modern art history, in the hearst museum archival holdings, and across other sites of visual culture. Amongst the indigenous peoples of the Andes region the patron diety of gender queer people is chuqui chinchay or the rainbow Jaguar, some sources also link chuqui chinchay with the pleiades constellation (the 7 sisters 😉). This work is an attempt to connect these traces.

III. In the colonial period the spanish intentionally used textiles to spread disease—so I wanted to invert that gesture—perhaps as an attempt to use a textile as a vector for anticolonial visual rhetoric?

V. This work is still in progress, as I’m still inching my way towards a final composition . In the production process I was testing different vendors for softness, price, and color quality…also most of the vendors I came across are in the South, so I’m very curious of whose hands these woven images passed through….

IV. A more poetic interest I have is about the presence/utility of the (political) poster. After its use it is discarded or forgotten, subjected to the whims of the universe. But can we live with super charged graphic content domestically or in another way? [psychically?]

VI. Collage gave me the license to “steal” from visual culture(s), but kinda stuck pondering a system that meets my sense of ethics better...

GG Campos, MFA 2026 @351amm

For Revolt Against the Sun GG produced three works—nothing can defeat the spirit of the earth or Horizon, untitled, and Witch FInger. The three works as part of the artists installation offer a meditation on a,’Becoming’ via adornment, protest, kitsch, hypersaturation, and grid systems. The works stand in their exuberance and in their moments of gaudiness against the suffocating pressure of fascism.
