Aleida Merkel spent a month along the Northern California coast, where the landscape and changing views of the ocean reintroduced her to Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach.” The parallels she found between the poem and her surroundings became the starting point for this studio project, bringing together footage by Sky Richards with a reading by Danika Moore.

Series SOFT FASCINATION No. 4

Soft fascination gently holds our attention without demanding it. Frédéric Gros writes, “Slowness means cleaving perfectly to time.” What appears ordinary begins to reveal patterns and connections that would otherwise remain unnoticed.

The same principle shapes our creative process. Good ideas rarely emerge on command. They require observation, questioning, collecting, and allowing disparate references to settle into conversation with one another.

We make space for curiosity before searching for solutions. The most meaningful concepts often appear while walking, reading, photographing, sketching. Creativity benefits from spaciousness.

1. “Idealized Portrait of a Young Woman as Flora,” an oil painting
by Bartolomeo Veneto, dated to about 1520.
2. William II and his bride Mary Stuart, by Sir Anthony van Dyck,
painted in 1641.
3. “Saint Lucy,” by Francisco de Zurbaránc. 1625/1630.
4. “Dancing Fairies,” by the Swedish painter
August Malmström, 1866.
5. “Nøkken,” by Theodor Kittelsen, 1904.
6. Charlotte Perriand, French architect and designer, 1903–1999.
7. “The Color of Pomegranates,” by Sergei Parajanov, 1969.
8. “Cloud” (Wolke), by Gerhard Richter, 1971.
9. “Eclipse,” by Konstantin Kalynovych. Oil, 12x14cm, 2009. by @37889.studio

Omi Health is a pet health company dedicated to making preventative care more accessible. By enabling pet owners to monitor their pets’ health through at-home testing and proactive care, Omi Health empowers people to better understand and care for the animals they love.

We filmed a series of vignettes. Each story captures a different expression of that bond: Gunslinger, Rollover, Drama, and Beware of Dog.

Series ROMANCE AND THE CITY No. 3

Urban romance is defined by coincidence, ambition, transience, constant movement, and the promise that any ordinary street corner might become the site of an unexpected encounter. The city’s density creates countless opportunities for connection. However, its pace makes those connections inherently fragile. Crowded sidewalks, subway platforms, cafes, parks, bookstores, and bars become stages where romance unfolds. A delayed train, a shared umbrella, a lingering glance across a cafe, or an accidental conversation in the streets all have the potential to transform an ordinary day into the beginning of a story.

The following references are some of our favorite depictions of romance in the city:

1. “In the Mood for Love,” directed by Wong Kar-wai, 2000.
2. “Pair of Lovers,” by Brassaï, Place d’Italie, Paris, 1930.
3. “Camel Coats,” by Joel Meyerowitz, New York City, 1975.
4. “The Apartment,” directed by Billy Wilder, 1960.
5. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” directed by Blake Edwards, 1961.
6. “Gimme Shelter,” Central Park, 1955. by @37889.studio

As part of the research phase for our next branding project, we spent the day at the New York Public Library Picture Collection.

We picked out more than 15 folders of archival materials. It’s a strange and wonderful archive, where we studied how color, typography, composition, and choice of words influence a brand’s identity and positioning in the market.

We sat there analyzing — with awe and the occasional laugh — how advertisements capture attention, whether through bold visual metaphors, humor, absurdity, or controversy, building stronger connections between a brand and its audience.

Part of 37889 Studio’s research method is stepping outside of the computer and embracing everything around us. Looking back at historical design allows us to understand what makes an identity resonate beyond aesthetics and stay culturally relevant. by @37889.studio

Creating a visual world for Tarallucci e Vino’s @taralluccievino.nyc campaign “Cornetto Panettone”

We had the pleasure of collaborating with illustrator H Conley to develop a series of visuals inspired by Chef Alessandro’s notes. Through hand-drawn textures and delicate details, the illustrations capture the warmth behind this seasonal creation.

In their own words:

“These drawings were made with heirloom colored pencils that I inherited from my mom inside a single-malt Glenfiddich tin. Some of the pencils very well could be as old as me… There are so many different qualities to the pencils that I get to discover as I use them. You can see some of the textural differences in the purples of the raisins and the browns of the flaky crust as a little more oil paint-like, and there’s a bit more chalky quality to some of the other colors used.”
