sunday best
final chapter of my playground, my graduate project

my playground grew from thinking about the
environments and celebrations that shaped me
growing up. throughout the project, I was often told by a tutor to make the work feel more visibly “African”,…….but I found myself more interested in exploring familiarity instead. this series became about creating images that felt true to the world and people I know.

I just want to thank everyone involved again for your trust, patience and support !

play time
chapter one of my playground, my graduate project.

where do I even begin….shot on 35mm film in ridley road market, this first chapter revisits a place deeply tied to my upbringing. these are the streets i walked in my school uniform, where my mum would bring me after school to get my hair done, buy lipgloss from paks, and of course grab all types of nigerian snacks. it was here that i met other young nigerians and began to understand my culture through the everyday.

thank you to everyone who helped bring this project to life: to my models, team, and everyone who gave their time, energy and trust to this process. this is only the beginning.

A lecturer asked me, “Where is the oppression in these images?”

This isn’t oppression.
This is celebration.

A celebration of Nigerian women and of presence.
