Philly jazz has always been about the conversation between what came before and what comes next.

WRTI sat down with The New Philly Sound for a closer look at the young musicians carrying that conversation forward.

The feature includes a conversation with The Heart of Jazz Vice President Enoch Smith, Jr. about the collective’s mission to merge innovation and tradition while creating real performance opportunities and professional connections for emerging musicians.

Members of The New Philly Sound also share their own stories, from family musical legacies to the mentors and Philly institutions that helped shape their sound.

Catch Ace Yuji Williams, Aidan McKeon, Justin Griggs, Ry Miller, Justin Bowden & Mekhi Boone performing in the WRTI studio and talking about what it means to come up as young jazz musician in the Philadelphia area.

Thank you Nicole Sweeney @thevelvetvoyce and the entire team! Read the full feature at WRTI.org

Wow wow wow…2 years ago, actually around this September was when I first wrote the song David’s Lullaby. One night- God gave me a melody and a story, and it all poured out to my fingers. One of my favorite stories and someone who I can relate to so much is David due to not only the fact that I am a psalmist but…I strive to be after Yahweh’s heart always, that his light and anointing never leaves. This is David’s Lullaby available on all streaming platforms and thank you SO MUCH @theheartofjazz for giving me room to share my gift. Blessings🙏🏽 #music #jazz #phillymusicscene #newalbumrelease by @3lacprodigy
